Modest Mouse - This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About

This isn’t my first foray into modest mouse as they were really popular around “Float On” release and I span Good News quite a lot back then, which was an extremely accessible album compared to this one. I think I tried to move onto other albums in the discography before but the lead singer has a very unique and specific voice that is kind of tiring to hear eventually for me.
To stay as true as possible to the album’s title, I listened to it three times, all three on my way driving to work. I had plenty to think about though during those drives so not sure if I understood the assignment fully but I did my best.
Overall, I enjoyed the album, but found myself completely spacing out often and having to restart songs. Made me wonder if the album title was ironic cause it was very difficult to actually focus on the lyrics. I think it’s very enjoyable background music for a drive, tbh. I like the lo-fi-ish lack of real structure on songs which still end up making sense.
Dramamine is a classic, which I’ve heard before and a wonderful album opener. Ionizes & Atomizes is probably my favorite song on the album and one I went back to multiple times even after my listens. The rest kind of blended. Wasn’t bad by any means though. Not sure if I’d return for more full album listens in the future.
6.5/10

juvenile 400 degrees first listen thoughts.
never listened to a full juvenile project before.
is this where black kray got the title 700 Dagreez from?
im impressed this got a 9.4 from p4k lol
the song "Ha" has some goofy outdated drums to me. tf is that clap/snare sound, it sounds so yet.
and there's some acid bass in the background or someshit lmao. i appreciate the sound combinations.
gone ride with me is hard. love the beat and flow. follow me now is a bop. it's like a weird surf n turf rap song that's really fun.
tf is this skit lmfao. listening to these songs makes me realize ppl suck at rapping nowadays LOL
unreal that juvenile was 23 yrs old when he released this. now 23 yrs old just be yelling nonsense over rage beats...
Ha remix goes hard as well. the bellllll man the belll , and that reverse section sheesh.
rich >>>>> idk what they doin with that pitched up/down perc/fx spamming but s*** was sounding like yoshi LOL i rlly liked that
wait this is where back that ass up is from?
my fav bars
I live my life on full
Unzip my pants and I pull
A big d*** baby
You look sick maybe
I tell ya what ya suck my d*** I'll be your man
Now here it is diamonds for the b****es that I f***
Not , I get the p**** make like Donald and duck
mannie fresh a menace
skit about reeboks getting wet is real. i wear reeboks
the vocoder usage on self titled track is futuristic for a late 90s rap song.
ya know im actually impressed by this album.
giving it my first 8/10 for this series.
great prod (even if some of it sounds dated), fun flows, memorable bars, interesting experimentation. there's a lot of humor in this album

Shinji Sato, the lead singer and songwriter of the Japanese experimental band Fishmans, passed away on March 15, 1999, at the age of 33, due to sudden heart failure. His death came shortly after the band's peak performance on December 28, 1998, documented in their famed live album 98.12.28 Otokotachi no Wakare.
It rlly feels like you’re hearing the band give it their all
