I think the shift in media nowadays will be to smaller artists but there will be much more of them. niche micro-celebrities are the new thing due to ppl being able to relate to them more easily and the resources of the music and entertainment industry need to be distributed further.
Albums come and go because everything comes and goes in today’s age of endless distraction and endless novelty. The internet destroyed our attention span and our ability to focus.
Before parents would have to buy you the physical CD and if you weren’t using it they’d beat the s*** out of you for wasting their money
media as a whole has gone downhill over time
everything feels like it was made by an ai to maximise sales or sum s*** nowadays
Where did I say streaming was bad
It's just not as fulfilling as it could be because of how easy it is to lose track of everything you find and enjoy.
Yeah the 9-10/10 albums stay forever but how many of those drop every year? I'm talking about the tons of cool little projects that drop that are easy to find but hard to sort through after you saved them
not ALL albums though...
from this year alone, we got some REAL classics:
Pino Palladino + Blake Mills - Notes With Attachments
Madlib - Sound Ancestors
MNDSGN - Rare Pleasure
BBNG is shaping up to be amazing too

that madlib album aint no f***ing classic lmao
There's no way niggas believe the process of buying a CD, throwing the CD into the computer, ripping the files / tracks onto your computer,
is better than waking up Friday morning with a new album right on your phone
Y'all just talking man lol
Yes, hence the term 'fast food music'. There are very little albums that are released lately that have genuine staying power compared to like, 2015.
Sour by Olivia Rodrigo
I’m not even trying to be funny that album has had a huge impact from its rollout and singles and promo and it’s stayed on the charts for an insanely ridiculous amount of time

Yep, a genuine hit album!
Counterpoint: Streaming opened up doors for listening to more artists
During field trips in high school I knew kids who basically had some money saved up for 2 albums to buy before the trip
Now its all available and even the most reclusive and frugal individual can enjoy Big30’s debut album, King of Killabranch, available on all platforms now
Yeah definitely, I think there are more positives than negatives. There are also less barriers fr independent artists too. So many smaller artists I would never have listened to if it wasnt for streaming.
Overall it's a positive, but I ws just talking about the negatives in this thread.
More rap album going number 1 than ever but hardly ever last more than 1 week. It’s really hard to hold attention or fans
Y'all are so dramatic, it's cool to have any new album at the touch of your fingertips. Only thing is it's now opened the doors to so much music s*** gets lost. But I prefer streaming over scouring for a DL link, breaking down a zip, paying full price for every drop, ect.

Good albums don’t come and go, simple as that lmao
A lot of the s*** people gas and give acclaim these days don’t really seem to impact on a real way long term. For example that Tyler Creator album
Felt like it wasn’t a factor after a couple weeks although people claimed they love it
Streaming is good for the consumer because they have most single or album releases instantly and have a variety of music to pick from but with that comes listening to an album or single once or twice and moving on even if the music is good. DSPs encourage that too so you stay on the app longer. Not so great for most indy artists and "mid-level" artists because they don't get the promo but its always a bigger artists with something else to offer and being promoted.

That’s why artists should release 3 albums a year and keep the streets on fire
They come and go b/c no one brings in the white board, talk, and brain storm in the studio. They just hop in the booth and drop ass bars and damn the beats don’t even be sounding cool these days....
Take a 3 years break if you dope. Put out albums every year If you a fast food ass nigga.
i guess but this is just true of everything rather than just music... everything is competing with everything for attention span & everyone's attention span is COOKED there is not enough time in the day to catch up w everything yet everything is available 24/7
