My love is crazy I hope people know Danja did that on the solo and not timbo

Hmmm could you argue black eyed peas and even early Usher did that as well?

Even outside of that I do want to give that credit to Brittney slightly because I never heard some s*** like give me more before. That s*** changed my brain chemistry for a while

I think songs like Nelly's Maneater/Promiscuous/Afraid and JT's SexyBack were the blueprint for Gimme More. Danja worked on all those songs.

4-on-the-floor beats weren't popular in the US mainstream for a very long time before those albums

    Joi is astounding, man.

I like the follow-up album even more.

Do you mean Amoeba Cleansing Syndrome or Star Kitty's Revenge?

OK, can’t ignore sexy backs impacted, especially when you are referring to the four on the floor beat styling that became popular afterwards

But I’d still argue that the strength of the album itself is the fact that it leans heavily into early 90s R&B though

early 90s R&B? u got some reference points? It sounds like Prince in a few places imo

I feel like you’re not wrong either
I could’ve definitely posted some obscure records with specific techniques or compositions that later impacted music. Like I really hate some the overt distorted south Florida sound Ls that came due to Ronny j but that s*** changed hip hop without question

I’ll be back because this is great convo

  • Another counterpoint to this thread is that there are a lot of albums that can be considered top 100 that probably didn’t actually make a leak forward in terms of sound but they’re still really Incredible.

wasn't Robin and Pharrell making music together since like 2002?

I don't think so, his debut was a different label & there was no neptunes involvement at all

Obviously I'm not saying my idea is correct/factual, just plausible

He says he had met Pharrell & Jay etc at parties & things and Pharrell was aware of Robin's first release but they didn't know each other yet. P apparently expressed an interest in signing Robin to Jimmy Iovine. Robin says he performed an unfinished Lost Without You in a meeting for Iovine & P & then signed with the label the next day
Wiki says P signed him in 05

So it does seem possible that P got a JT replacement as they couldn't work with JT due to the label beef/politics

Well, together they snatched the #1 spot from Justin in 2013 with Blurred Lines.. so maybe in the end they won?

and when Pharrell got back with Justin they made Supplies

I always had this idea in my mind that Prince was bordering on making a new viable musical theatre-esque sound that he didn't fully explore when he released some of the stuff on Parade & tracks like Wally.

I think there was a whole other trajectory he could've went done but it never happened because of that bad ecstasy trip which changed him & led to him cancelling The Black Album & making Lovesexy instead.

We aren't allowed to talk about Blurred Lines though fam

I remember the behind the scenes video & JT really thought he was about to be an innovative pioneer with his country r&b sound

So crazy this came out just 3 years after Ramones self titled. One of the best albums of all time

  • To

Comin' Out Hard is excellent but their rapping and instrumental game are light years ahead here. Some hyperbolic time chamber s*** they pulled off leveling up their sound for On Top of the World. Feel like it was a right of passage for early 90s hiphop duos to have an arch like this between albums but the difference between these two projects really puts in perspective how groups had to really challenge themselves.
