Alejandro González Iñárritu is now in production on his first feature film since “The Revenant,” the Los Angeles Times confirms. The newspaper describes Iñárritu’s latest as “a colossal production” filming in Mexico City and tentatively titled “Limbo.” The director wrote the film’s screenplay, which explores “the political and social modernity of Mexico.” While portions of Iñárritu’s “Babel” were filmed in Mexico, “Limbo” marks the director’s first movie shot entirely in Mexico City since his 2000 breakthrough directorial feature debut “Amores Perros.”

Your opinions so hard to figure out bro lmaooo. Would expect you to like Birdman more than Revenant based on how you prefer s*** with creative structures and not be formulaic

Birdman was massively pretentious to me. Just full of long takes and overacting and innaritu taking digs at how this guy is making REAL art unlike the MCU, which id be fine with but it’s just not self aware enough to tie it all together

Yeah revenant is mad indulgent and self important but I also enjoy the commitment to the production and how it creates this atmospheric world.

But why wouldn’t you like long takes? The DP has used that technique before in Children of Men so it’s not like it was “oh let’s do some cool tricks”

Plus even tho it wasn’t “technically” a one take movie, it was designed to appear that way. Not many movies are a one take showcase.

Also to me the “overacting” was suppose to be a selling point of the play like atmosphere

well I like one take sequences when there is a need for them. I think it works great in Children of Men and The Revenant to add that sense of scale and realism (moreso for CoM than the Revenant)

but there is genuinely zero need for it in Birdman. It just comes off as "I AM AN AUTEUR" type filmmaking and Innaritu just rubbing his nose at blockbuster art and thinking what is he doing is a higher form of filmmaking when hes effectively just filming dudes having convos.

It just comes off weird because there are heavy themes in Birdman of how truly great art is not going to be praised but his idea of great art is overacting and long takes and I could buy it if it was presented to be more self aware, but I get the vibe from Innaritu (and the fans of that film) that they really do think that kind of self indulgent showman filmmaking is what they consider to truly be a sign of great filmmaking.

Idk bro I don’t see how that opinion makes sense, and notice a lot of people get mad at film makers for trying something different calling it “pretentious” while also knocking film makers who stick to normal formulas.

Birdman long continuous take represents life in itself how there’s no cuts. And then it cuts right before showing him in the hospital which is assumed to be his “funeral” hence why there was a cut from the full movie long take.

There’s a lot of interpretations about the ending and movie itself which include the purpose of him doing the long take and utilizing cuts when he did. I don’t see how that’s pretentious, just him telling the story in a creative way.

Watching 'The Revenant' in theaters was a complete waste of $20 and a Friday night back when it premiered. Had to wash out the taste of this Malick impersonator with 'Hotel Transylvania'
