Idk bro I don’t see how that opinion makes sense, and notice a lot of people get mad at film makers for trying something different calling it “pretentious” while also knocking film makers who stick to normal formulas.

Birdman long continuous take represents life in itself how there’s no cuts. And then it cuts right before showing him in the hospital which is assumed to be his “funeral” hence why there was a cut from the full movie long take.

There’s a lot of interpretations about the ending and movie itself which include the purpose of him doing the long take and utilizing cuts when he did. I don’t see how that’s pretentious, just him telling the story in a creative way.

It’s only pretentious when it’s modern day directors. In 20 years, kids will be calling Alejandro a pioneer and their directors pretentious.

Tell me how a one take is pretentious but Eric Rohmer filming an entire movie with two people talking is considered “artistic”.

Film nerds think it’s cool to hate whatever is popping.

I don’t understand it bro. Niggas literally hate on exactly what they asked for.

“I hate films that have normal structures”

Ok....here’s a creative flick “oh they just doing different s*** to be pretentious” 🤦🏽‍♂️

if a filmmaking technique is used in a way that feels genuine for the films concept, then its a great way of using it

If its just used for the director to make it very apparent to you how hard he is trying and how he is a "visionary", then that is when it starts becoming pretentious
