Kenny Rockwell is the person who is lecturing the audience. The original creators script wasnt what this is now. HE IS LECTURING THE AUDEINCE USING LIES. He is adding in lies and dramatizations to make his uncle the greatest villain so that when he dies they celebrate. When the truth is behind the scenes it was a collection of human beings. thats part of why he says "digger wasnt even here". They were placing Digger in a situation of war that he wasnt present for. Yes he is an oil tycoon supplying something the world wants but the one in control of war presidents and generals. Digger wasnt actually in rooms joking about bombing things and countries. Politicians use him as a literal fall guy. People not understanding Kenny Rockwell is not a good character is showing they dont understand the point of the movie. With many of the critics saying "this isnt a call to action movie". In many ways it is BE MORE CRITICAL OF WHAT YOU ARE BEING TOLD. BE CRITICAL OF WHAT THEY ARE SAYING INT HE MEDIA . When they are presenting HEROES and VILLAINS. Just because Kenny finds your daughter Hope DONT TRUST . the tech companies dont love you. the art companies PROFIT FROM YOUR FEAR AND RELIVING TRAUMA.

I think this pushes back against a specific criticism people had of Primetime

I don't think the movie was about "lies vs. truth" at all, but instead about how we cope with tragedy

the climax is the actor refusing to act out lies that didnt occur then Kenny Rockwell explaining the lies are worth it so they get a cathartic release

Yes, I don't think the message is "there are lies in your art that you should be more critical and aware of", I think the message is moreso "how we cope as human beings to real world tragedy isn't always logical or reasonable, but the catharsis we get from it is all that matters at the end of the day because this art is not fixing any of these problems that already exist". They leave the theatre at the end happy and walk right back into an apocalyptic hellhole. I think the movie is pushing back on those who expect artists and art to solve the world's issues.

You need to consider who delivers that push back

The modern day relative of digger. He is his nephew for a reason. He is a billionaire relative for a reason. he could have not been a billionaire tech security advisior and accomplsihed the same plot they choose for him to be that for a reason. He literally bought the plot from the poor and dramatized it for profit. Likely sold them the mask they are wearing and has security contracts with the oppression they see on the outside. THE MAN SAYING HE CAN TRACE THE LOCATION OF HIS DAUGHTER ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. ISNT A GOOD GUY YOU SHOULD TRUST KENNY ROCKWELL IS LYING TO YOU. The cartharis clearly isnt worth it if every single day they want past their own oppression for 20 years while he profits and gains more power. Using a human being as a fall guy for their own crimes. Brother you think the audience clapping while smiling and crying/ yelling f\*\*\* you at a screen while being devoid of emotion and wearing a literal mask over their mouth when walking outside is that subtle

  • Also John Goodman killed it here, might be a top 3 role imo

That's the point of the ending though. Their world IS f\*\*\*ed up and ruined as a result of that man's family. Nothing is changing that for them. But the art that they spend their hard earned money on is there for them to have a place to lash out their anger, feel their grief, and laugh at the absurdity of it all. The movie is saying that it is not a movie's job to solve the world's problems or answer life's questions for you.

the play is literally controlling the narrative how can you not get that . HE BOUGHT THE IDEA OFF THE POOR. Made it a huge production and CHANGED IT FROM THE STORY THE POOR WERE CREATING. The original piece of art from the poor by the poor could change lives BUT IT NEVER REACHES THE AUDIENCE.

they have been watching the same play for 20 years and its the only play this man produces or potentially even shows. The person showing it is a billionaire justifying it as a cartharis that they need. Even if the cartharis is filled with lies. This isnt the first showing of Fossil Fuels Tom is reacting to it more because he notices it is adding MORE lies.

Ultimately, the Digger play twists highlight two contrasting ideas. First, obviously, Digger warns us that the stupid rich control our lives. And that even when they utterly tear down everything and make the world a living hell, they will escape true consequence. Digger Rockwell might have killed himself, but Kenny Rockwell was able to use his family’s fortune and status to not only survive, but thrive in a dystopia. He does a couple of nice things in Digger, like helping Digger’s actor to locate his daughter after she is lost in a hurricane, and insists on putting on the play Fossil Fools to give the masses catharsis. But instead, he could be using his money to actually help people.

At the end of Digger, we see every single person in the audience put on a high-tech gas mask before exiting. No doubt the people bought these gas masks from the Digger family, who forced them into this mess in the first place. Ultimately, Kenny Rockwell helps Digger’s actor save his daughter from a catastrophe his family helped cause and now profits from. The selfish rich continue to enact the actions of the selfish rich, and the cycle continues.

At the same time, we do see that Digger‘s play does bring a rare moment of entertainment and community to the people forced to live in this horrible world. And in a sense, Digger the movie does the same in ours. Entertainment will always be important. We’re glad communal catharsis can exist into dystopia. But frankly, we’ll take the first lesson more to heart. Let us not allow ourselves to fall into the future Digger paints in the first place

I literally said I was done discussing with him and moved on . I posted a hour spoiler interview about the movie for people to listen to directly from the director. Why would I argue with someone who had a different understanding. People will clearly see this movie from the lens they wish to see it in

Many Americans have a shallow reading of it to me but they paid money to see it and have that view

dont believe the hour long spoiler interview about the film I posted for a reason you're right you got it you're never wrong.

From Alejandro himself in the video you shared:

"Suddenly I got this idea because I was struggling how to tell this story, and I felt that the only way was to reflect upon it and see it from a distance to separate it from the reality. Reality sometimes is so close and so complex, that it is very hard for us to understand it. And I think sometimes representation of reality is more real than reality because it allows us to recognize ourselves. That's why in a theater play, or a film, or a song, or a painting, we have distance... we can see ourselves and we can get together and we can laugh at ourselves and that allows us to understand reality more. That's art. That's the role of art, which this film is about: the role of art, which is futile, is useless, but it's very important for us to understand."
