I get what OPs saying, that hiphop needs a fresh new sound that's never been heard or done before but in a mainstream sense.

Imo I think rap needs like a Nirvana moment to shift it into a whole different direction. Cuz Trap/Street Rap has been dominating ever since emo rap/soundcloud rap died off.

first half may have been decent but still pales in comparison to the 90s and the 00s. Just not a lot of iconic artist coming out of the genre these days.

Kinda random but kinda on topic but I’ve noticed how barely anyone works with DJ Dahi like that when he’s the most forward thinking producer in rap right now who pushes quality. Whatever he’s working on with Kendrick and Vince is gonna satisfy a lot of people and move rap forward imo.
