Who else tackles topics like gentrification, incarceration, religious hypocrisy, capitalism, poverty, d*** abuse, tragedy and much more all in one album
And it’s crazy everyone at the time was saying Rocky doesn’t rap about anything
Easily the top 3 conscious rap album to come out last decade
not quite but compared to what he’s perceived as it’s very substantive tbf, you have to say though, it’s a bit of an anomaly compared to the rest of his discog subject matter wise
Yeah Rocky had a wide array of topics on that album and got hella personal on it
Dope album

perfectly encapsulates Rocky stepping into his place as one of the GOATS

In my opinion it’s a Top 15-20 rap album of the 2010s, super super underrated to me
Canal St. is one of his best songs to this day
…and it’s literally a Bones song
Lmfaooooooo
I disagree with the substance part but I do think it’s a great album. Up there with the. EEG work of the last generation.
Can't think of anything I learned about Rocky listening to this damn album and they're talking about substance lmao

yeah it’s a good album though, but there’s nothing too interesting going on lyrically at all, Rocky always had the ability to approach topics at a pretty surface level, but he flipped them in a way with his flows that made them seem interesting

Yeah like he's able to stay on topic for sure, for someone like Travis thats rare
Canal St one of the best examples actually a genuinely great song
what does substance even mean. like if im just a regular dude working a 9 to 5 and have a dog and i rap about playing video games, karen from accounting, walking my dog, and bad tinder dates does my music have substance because it's genuinely about my life or does it lack substance because it's not about issues that don't necessarily affect me but affect people in my a community i'm part of. i'm not trying to be facetious or anything either i'm just wondering people's take on this
