TheViciousCircleHe’s not making music like his prime/what cemented him, but his ability to still put out quality, inspired music is impressive. I’m actually having a hard time thinking of hip hop artists with his sort of longevity outside of the obvious Kanye and Jay Z mentions.
I would hardly call his new music “inspired” but there are good moments

Ironically listening to All of the lights . I think Drake just needs to push a little further when it comes pushing boundaries with songs the way he did during the Take Care and NWTS era. Production was so layered and outros felt more detailed
Producers have just gotten way too comfortable looping a synth and some 808s. It makes songs feel unfinished

Senior InternNo, I don't think sonically (I know, I know), but also he's so disillusioned now that it's comparatively a chore to listen to against his first 5 or so years. Didn't really pay attention to the change around 2015-16 or even 2020 but now it's so glaringly obvious. Lyrically he's improved, sure, but I'd rather listen to Thank Me Later lol. Throw it in A Bag remix type s*** he sounds like a real person even if it's nowhere near as well done
Agree imo.
Sonically hes probably more consistently good now than on previous projects but I thought from NWTS - IYRTITL and some of the loosies like Days in the East or Heat of The Moment etc etc were when he was making his most interesting choices and the highest highs.
Lyrically hes a fake mob boss who makes his own life sound like a drag which negates a lot of the good music.
