damn i miss this show lol
need to rewatch at some point in the future
on the finale now.
geez i forgot how big of an a****** walter white was, nigga got mad over Saul asking about a time machine
Gimmie season 7 with Jimbo just in jail
Just finished.
Amazing show. Definitely think it should be ranked up there with Breaking Bad and a great companion piece.
Some episodes were slower, which I understand, I knew this wasn't gonna be as fast paced/thrilling as Breaking bad and more so a character study on Saul and how he "broke bad" so to say. And I appreciate it being more "Courtroom/Lawyer show" driven. But once he does become Saul...got damn...S5 and S6 was a ride and all that we had been waiting for.
The way the black and white scenes paid off
that s*** coulda been its own El Camino type movie in itself but I prefer the way they did it with the show.
All the call back to characters was handled great, and not just strictly fan service.
There's still some things I'm unsure about when it comes to Jimmy/Saul character, like why he decided take 86 years rather than 7...like I get it was for Kim yada yada...but nigga....86 years!?! lol naaa.
But yeah, Saul was definitely my favorite character in BB and I'm glad he got his own show and man oh man was this nigga a glorious sociopath.

All the a***ysis vids in the world won't convince me that choice made any sense other than to allow a TV show to push its message of redemption/accountability blablabla that s*** made no sense whatsoever in a real life sense dude coulda done a whole lot more soul searching and self improvement on the outside rather than spending life in jail just so he could smoke a cigarette with mayo yep guys girl friend
But all things aside a very well made show overall

To me I was less about Kim and more about his own baggage and accountability.
Not to get too personal but I’ve def had moments where due to guilt and baggage, I’ve gone scorched earth unnecessarily just to get that clarity and emotional freedom. I guess its a person by person thing cause I see my worldview as, well, emotional lol.
If he took the 7, he would never have a chance to properly atone. That would just another thing to feel guilty about, and sure he probably could’ve gone to therapy after and been alright in some time, maybe not, maybe getting away with it all like that could’ve been the biggest dopamine rush oat leading him to just relapse again when he got out. But wither way, in the moment, with all that s*** on the table + seeing Kim after all that time, in his shoes i could easily see myself doing something that “stupid” just for the catharsis. To me, Kim’s involvement is just the icing on the cake but also she was always what initially pushed him inward many times through the early seasons but especially during the aftermath of Chuck’s death.
Is it realistic, no, but Jimmy has always been on 10 and I personally think this was a wild way to bow out. I’m a hugeee fan of the Kim and Jimmy story, but I do think people are leaning a bit too hard in the it was all for Kim stuff. Jimmy’s relationship with himself and how/when he chooses to reward or punish himself is just as interesting.
My bad for the essay lmao just my first time speaking on this topic in a while and I had some old thoughts in there that needed to be expressed

Yeah I agree, it didn't make sense in real life and definitely didnt make sense to who Jimmy/Saul was. That's probably my only issue with the finale.

But thing is he didn't decide to confess until he heard news about Kim, so to me its kinda hard to believe this wasn't done to help clear her name a bit and also prove to her "see I can take accountability as well"
Like what is there really for Saul to feel guilty of (based on his thought process)...he didn't kill any of the people who died, he didn't sell d**** or cook it, all he did was legally help the people who asked and paid for legal help. So it's hard for me to believe a character like Saul would all sudden have a guilty conscious, and what would spark that if not Kim?
Waterworks is the most you're getting
eh it's not enough, she was too much like a plot device for jimmy and deserved better.
how about all the generation trauma she went through and all those flashbacks?
wish we would see more how she reached her conclusion and fleshed more the whole mesa verde outcome.

Well thats the thing, legally I dont think Saul’s confession helped her out at all really. She said everything that needed to be said, unless im
misremembering, on the plane Jimmy only said he had one last thing to confess about Howard, only to get Kim to the courthouse. His confession was mostly s*** about Walt and Chuck.
I mean I think being a general piece of s*** for as long as he was is enough to feel guilty for. When I talk about guilt I’m not just talking legally I’m talking morally. The list is too long bro lol and several times throughout the seasons you could see it effect him but he would brush it off. His whole arc in season 4 was feeling guilty as s*** but refusing to deal with it, you can easily say his guilt about Chuck directly led to Howard’s death.
I think a main point of the show and the ending was that Jimmy was never truly “a character like Saul” or at least not at his core, and if you’re from the perspective that he was, the idea that “he’ll never change” is something we were always meant to question, not just take as faith, especially not from Chuck during that moment. If anyone was still questioning or believing that, i think his decision would be a very clear answer.
As far as Kim goes I didn’t deny that she was the spark, she absolutely was, but she wasnt the end all be all of that moment.

I meant clear her name to the public and in the case of being sued, by making it seem like it was mostly Saul behind being the mastermind behind every bad thing that happened.
Idk fam it's just hard not to see all of that not being solely tied to Kim, like if all that was true then why even put in effort to scheme your way down to 7 years? Just to reverse all of that the moment you hear news about Kim? To me that makes me think he did a 180 mostly for Kim. I'm not saying some of it wasn't for himself, possibly, but I'd argue majority of that confession was for Kim, at least that's how the writers sold it.
I even read a theory that Saul was jealous of the "fame" Walter white got for everything, and his ego wouldn't allow it, so that's why he confessed in court to make people believe SAUL made walter white who he was and he was responsible for the empire also...which when you think about it wasn't fully true...Saul definitely was equally scared as well even though he denied it.

Gotchu. I can definitely see that even though I didn’t take it that way. Thinking about the scene now I could def read that in his performance though. I think that can coexist with how i took it too.
I mean to me, at that point he just got caught, still in survival/addict mode. When he came up with that idea in the cell it even seemed like he was having a manic episode. But feel you, I guess we’re stuck cause im at the same place where its hard for me to see that decision and not think more about Chuck (writers even called to that with the Chicanery exit sign shot and Jimmy reclaiming his name) and Jimmy’s struggle with morality than I do Kim, even with her being the spark. I think “for Kim” and “because of Kim” are close but very different in terms of motive. Like I said I dont deny her role in the decision but when it’s framed all around her I feel like a lot of important context is left behind and it makes the decision feel less impactful.
As far as that theory goes I mean I can see where that comes from and I do agree to an extent about him being jealous, but I can’t roll with that theory its too BB focused and it leaves a lot of the character work done in BCS out to dry. Also I dont think Saul feared Walt at that point, I just dont feel it.
Saul looking back at Kim for approval during his silly confession like a desperate love sick puppy
vince gilligan's wife is the hand that comforts kim on the airport shuttle during the scene where she finally breaks
Just finished.

Imo a lot of the scenes of Gene after the phone call between him and Kim near the end showed that the life he was living without anybody that truly cared about him (Kim) was leading him to either death or jail. He had given into the worst parts of himself and continued to scheme to try to self medicate the emotional pain he was suffering.
In the finale his original plan was to go full Saul mode and get the best deal possible. It wasn’t until he was on the plane to NM and heard that Kim confessed to Howard’s wife specifically (he didn’t really seemed to phased hearing about the confession submitted to the court) did he make the decision to lie to the feds to make Kim come to trial so she could bear witness to James finally confessing to not just his crimes, but also taking accountability for his biggest regrets.
The Gene scenes have shown us that like Kim said, the life he was living “wasn’t much”. He was a shell of who he used to be and living in a self imposed prison already, at least being locked up he is around people that accept him for who he is. He can finally start the long road to redemption by finally accepting with the consequences of his actions and can maybe redeem some of his soul back. The one person left that truly knows Saul as Jimmy is still in his life. He proved Walt, Chuck, and Mike wrong. He changed.

That's likely exactly what the writers were going for, doesn't make it any less of an eye roll

The only thing about all this I have to question is how would he known he would be loved in prison? He was so scared of going to prison that he requested a specific prison (which was presumably taken out of the deal after he confessed) I just find it hard to believe that was part of the motivation, I’m not sure if that’s what you’re implying but I’ve seen others say that “he wanted longer prison time because the inmates accept him whereas the outside world doesn’t” but that would have been impossible to know that prior to him being on the bus with the inmates
