    @op you a real one

    the blend of amapiano and afrobeat on this is insane. this album had so much life. my favorite right now is Sunmomi:

    You'd have to be a pro mental gymnast to not see the lack of emotional sophistication and variety in the music in OP which can be found in the examples you gave

    yup, that might be true. it still doesn't address the nuances that go into music. all music.

    i brought up the example of "rap music is the same" but here are others:

    "house is just oontz oontz"

    "rock is just guys screaming"

    so i understand your position, i do.

    if you have time to read an essay and listen to some music, i'll give you 4 songs (that don't even tell the whole story really) and i hope it gives you a bit of context and a bit of
    💫 nuance 💫

    okay, see the South Africans developed this really interesting offshoot of house music called Amapiano (it was called Bacardi initially but yeah that's what it's called now), it's signified by the log drum bass. a short 808 type of drum bass that they used to replace typical bass lines.

    it basically f***ed all of Africa up and everyone basically wanted to make that type of music too. here's one of the earliest Nigeria x South Africa amapiano collabs. the log drum is that bouncy bass that kicks in at about a minute in:

    it quickly started catching on and Nigerians started fusing their already on going afrobeat flavor with the South African drums. here's one of the biggest known fusions to date, by Lojay which even got a Chris Brown remix:

    notice how these two songs already are vastly different in style but are all falling under the same umbrella. okay, let's continue.

    the fusions have kept going and haven't just been uptempo like the Chris Brown one i linked. Joeboy even tried fusing those drums with the laidback afrobeat that guys like him and Omah Lay etc were pushing. you can hear the log drum kick in at about 55 seconds. a vastly different take on the fusions so far:

    now we arrive at Asake (pronounced Ashake if you were unaware). i'm gonna link a song OP already did called 'Terminator'. not because of Bria Myles bunda, which is phenomenal don't get me wrong

    but because this is where the fusions are at right now. the music doesn't necessarily follow the build up structure of og amapiano but does retain the overall essence of the drums. this has allowed the music to follow a typical afrobeat structure now, with a slight remix of the amapiano drums underneath it all. now, i've been talking about the log drum hitting about a minute in all the songs i linked, here because the typical amapiono drum structure has been reworked, the log drum kicks in very early, about 27 seconds in, which would be widely considered blasphemous in amapiano circles. seems like a nothing difference (just 30 seconds) but is very important in highlighting the shift over time.

    Still seems like you're using these stark examples of which have worlds of depth and variety, not just nuances (not as much with House). Ofc someone can think "house" and go "oontz oontz" as well as think "emo" and just scream. This isn't the case here though. I've listened to the tracks itt and they don't strike me as anything notable for me, maybe in the African scene they are fire but I don't think in scenes or origins, I just feel how I feel and all that just blended into a vapid wash.. except for that Sip track, I'm liking this one

    Speaking of Emo music, that's a genre I don't meld with, a lot of it did (and still does) sounds derivative and unappealing.. until I heard Slint's Spiderland and fell in love with that album.. I still have the save criticisms for the genre all in all though
