He’s the one giving these explanations though. Maybe if he just made his point as straight up as that, then we wouldn’t talk about it. But when he start with this “I can’t rap because rap is a young man’s game, I go to the doctor, that’s not hip hop!”, he’s making the conversation about more than just “I don’t feel like rapping”
This is only because he’s answering a question that he continues to be asked. We’re perceiving it as more only because of that because we’re the ones who need to understand why one of the most talented rappers to ever live doesn’t feel like rapping anymore. So we keep asking and he keeps generously providing us with every possible sensible answer he can purely in an attempt to comfort our own discontent. Because we ourselves can’t fathom being that good at something and wanting to ever stop but the answers are there in track 1, in the GQ interview, in the Rick Rubin Interview, in the NPR interview, in anything he’s said really over the past several years. He just simply doesn’t feel like doing it anymore and I really can’t blame him. There’s a certain level of cache and attention that comes with him rapping and rapping in general that he doesn’t seem to be interested in anymore. He seems much more content with playing his instrument, doing his laundry, and just being a normal human being.
never has immersed himself culturally, has always gone against the grain
has always seemed somewhat disconnected or what i would call in his own world
and that is what he was embraced and loved for, since ATLiens
That's not how I'm necessarily saying he's disconnected, because he was one half of the Outlast and apart of Goodie Mobile
But watching him speak about his family and being the only child, makes all the reason in the world why I feel he's disconnected culturally

I feel like hes explained it as more than just “being old” & i dont think its as simple as that either. Dude has been talking about not being inspired to rap for like ten years with various reasons
Meh I just think the “rap is a young man’s game” take is so dumb that I don’t wanna believe he still thinks it
It feels like a cop out to me, just say you’re not inspired and stand on it. As an older hip hop fan I cannot stand this “what am I supposed to rap about, a colonoscopy??? 🤓🤡” it’s so corny and reductive. Just say you hate hip hop
but he said multiple times that he wasn’t inspired
This is more ambient than I kinda hope it to be. His flute playing is somewhat of an after thought to some of these pieces so far

I think that’s where the beauty in the variety of flutes he was describing comes into play. Like I think track one is mainly just a bansuri flute that they’ve pitched down to give that ambient space like feeling and texture
People will either really love this, or really hate it. I can see people being divided after the first listen. But I think it’s phenomenal. Definitely top 3 of 23 for me.
the fact is you can't put Andre in top 5 if he records one verse a year. If a rapper records one verse a year(having all the time in the world to craft a perfect verse) he shouldn't be praised for it. Imagine if someone like Wayne drops one verse a year for 6-7 years straight
Turn on that vpn and go to his YouTube releases
on my work computer rn but imma try on my phone good looking

lol when you think about it Wayne has more feature verses in 2007 than Andre's 29 year career and also has more songs in 2007 than Outkast/Andre's entire career
We need to figure out a name for albums that release first in NZ vs albums that release at midnight US EST, cause this is a "global release" in a sense, I'm calling on the KTT2 council to help us figure this out

One annoying thing about this album, and it's not even necessarily on the album moreso the listeners. I can already tell this album is about to make so many people absolutely f***in insufferable with their most pretentious and headass takes.
As much as I love jazz, I loathe jazz discussion because of the kinda people it brings out.
