Disrespecting Bernie Mac defending the most lame ass man in the world
Responding to a specific question (which I was) with a hypothetical scenario where the word 'property' could be used 'hyperbolically' to refer to your partner (which I have seen a few instances of) is not the same as defending Tate, nor is it me encouraging the use of the word, nor is it an admission of me using the word in my day to day life, because I certainly don't. It's a neutral, hypothetical scenario made to illustrate how a word can have different meanings within different contexts.
One doesn't have to be all the way Pro Tate or all the way Anti Tate in order to discuss, so don't box me in with those who think he's the devil incarnate and don't box me in with those who think he's the second coming of Jesus because none of those extremes have enough nuance or balance to represent my views or beliefs accurately or fairly.

Why are you out here writing essays about this man ffs? I think most peoples point in here is that we can ignore the fact that not everything is black and white when we are discussing someone who’s a piece of s*** like Tate? What’s the need or point of discussion? He’s a s***trafficking d***head. I don’t get the mental gymnastics to try and engage in some discourse about the man.

Well, I thought this was a forum, where the whole purpose is to discuss things, and that's what I wanted to do. That's what makes a forum thrive. You made this thread. If there wasn't anybody in the thread having discussions, sharing their thoughts or reactions, your thread wouldn't be at 45 pages. It would die after the first page. It's obviously an interesting topic for a lot of people here if the thread made it this far. I had some time off after work so I engaged in some threads. That's it, really.
The troll and his nuances
Not trolling, g. I know this is an online forum with a lot of trolling and boxing each other into one extreme vs the other extreme (which I too am guilty of at times ) so I understand it's not always the best place to have actual, balanced and nuanced discussions but I guess I forgot that for a minute.
I think it's the specific choice of using the word "property" that pushes buttons because it has a more materialistic connotation. The use of possessive terms when referring to someone you love however is natural to us all. My girl belongs to me, as in she's my girl, not your girl, and I belong to her, as in I'm her man, not somebody else's man. Me saying that she's my girl doesn't mean she's only here to please me and has no autonomy over her own body and mind. If a man's trying to holla at my girl and I yell "Ayo, get away from my property! Get your own girlfriend!" most people would understand that I'm not equating my girlfriend to a cellphone, a house or a car. I'm just saying she belongs to me and I belong to her. Tate might have a deeper meaning behind it but this is how I see it.
This is probably the most thought out and genuine post I've seen in discourse on this site, and they choose to ridicule and say it's a troll
Comprehension at an all time low
The fact that anyone pushes back on this, on a hip-hop site is bewildering. They can't know any niggas in real life

Shut the f*** up lmao. No one uses the word property in that context in real time in a regular ass convo 😭😭😭😭😭

I literally called my girl, "my girl" this morning
I speak like that and everyone I grew up around does too. I'm not sure what all the confusion about

My girl is completely different from my property
My girl is completely different from my property
Not to me, or who I grew up around. You can keep saying it's different but that's not my experience. What you're responsible for, or have to defend is your property imo
Don’t remember the song going like “that’s my property” on the WTT song. You know who did consider people as property though

F*** yeah,
You’re my property.
I love how disingenuous these users be. Always wanting to be right. It's pathetic lol

As a lawyer this is hilarious to read

Thinking you're right doesn't make you so. Are you asserting that persons are property? And to distinguish personal property from real property would class women in the former?

Care to, perhaps, spell out the inconsistency with that statement? What is it that you disagree with or doesn't make sense? I'm genuinely curious because so far nobody has really adressed it.

It's definitely noble that you're trying to understand, but they're not.
I respect the effort doe
