think about it this way: mostly everyone in their 30s prefer the look of traditional 2d hand drawn animation to computer animation, but the latter has huge box office returns while the former has been extinct since the mid 00s.
Animation is still very much alive in japan, and especially japanese animation now is starting to become bigger than ever. Also 3d animation can be done great, Pixar been doing it since the mid 90s and never missed, i do agree tho that its become oversaturated, in big part because of despicable me

But like the 90s there was a wave of american adult animated films coming out Bebe's Kids, and I married a strange person come to mind, hell even bigger longer and uncut. It's just like after those we fell back into it
