Estab-Life: Great Escape - 9/10

There's something here, there really is. Estab-Life is many things, but most importantly, it's infectiously sincere and compassionate - and no character embodies this more than Equa, the leader of the Extractors, a group that undertakes missions to help unhappy people escape from one city-state to another. In a medium that places so much emphasis on fighting back against societal structures, Estab-Life's message that it's OK to run away from your problems is an unorthodox one - but it works because Equa never judges the escapees for their act of running away or for their reasons for running away. In fact, Equa provides affirmation to the escapees that they are indeed making the brave choice - that fleeing their city state and starting life anew would mean giving up everything: their social position, their wealth, and their guarantee of a future livelihood. But sometimes that's what you need to do to have a chance at a better life, and whether it's a group of performers seeking to escape the censorship of an authoritarian government or a grizzled yakuza boss wanting to become a magical girl, Equa will help them and treat every situation with equal dignity and respect - after all, that's the bare minimum everyone deserves.
