end of season ratings
dandadan s2 - 10/10
i'll keep giving these 10's as long as yamashiro and science saru are cooking
call of the night s2 - 9/10
loved loved loved the direction of this season. the toned down monogatari style really fits this series so well. i hope itamura stays on as director for later seasons cause there's some really great moments that i'd love to see him tackle
dress up darling s2 - 8.5
i'm sorta let down by marin and gojo's relationship getting put in the backseat with cosplay being the main focus of the season. their relationship is the highlight of the show and there were some great moments but it just didn't feel like enough. either way it was still really good, just wanted a bit more
the summer hikaru died - 8/10
something about this show just felt like an older production. the framing of shots, the sound design and the general ambiance makes it feel older than it is to me. pretty enjoyable mystery thriller
city the animation - 7.5
every episode is visually stunning and fun but the skits that are chosen are very hit or miss. some stuff is just a complete dud and when that happens the episode pacing really slows down. worth watching for the visuals alone imo
witch watch 7/10
this would have been much better if it was split into two seasons. it started out being very funny and unique but then it hit a stretch of like 7 or so episodes that were all just very boring and bad. the few fight scenes are also genuinely awful. it's picked back up in recent weeks though
grand blue s2 - 7/10
i enjoyed this season way more than s1. the humor wasn't nearly as repetitive and there was a lot more character moments. hopefully s3 keeps that up
there's no freaking way i'll be your lover - 5.5/10
fun trash. i'm weirdly invested even though basically everything about this show kinda sucks
I'm going to look insane writing this because you clearly liked the show and I actually have no problem with your rating at all but I feel the exact opposite of what you just said about Marin and Gojo's relationship being the highlight of the show
Marin and Gojo's relationship is cute, but I feel like the focus of the show has always been cosplaying and the large cast of characters that Gojo and Marin form relationships with through their interests. The way all these characters have their own story to tell about how they fell in love with cosplaying, how it helped them through their own insecurities, shaped them into what they are today and how all of this loops back into cosplaying is very beautiful and is what gives it such a strong identity compared to other rom-coms.
I think the biggest highlight of "My Dress-up Darling" is actually the relationships everyone is forming over their niche hobbies, learning to take pride in it without fear of being judged and also how Cloverworks presents all this with such strong style, personality and creative vision; the amount of effort they put into portraying the media that Marin wants to cosplay such as getting an actual pixel artist to do the visuals for the Coffin VN or the magical girl scene from EP8 shows that staff working on it really love this work with their whole being
Anyway, I'm definetely not going to say that anyone is wrong if what they enjoy the most about the show is the romance between Gojo and Marin but I think "My Dress Up Darling" does such a good job with presenting the hobbies of the duo in such a striking and entertaining fashion that it feels... kinda reductive to somewhat dismiss what gives the show such a strong identity in the first place because there wasn't enough romance in it. Personally, I always felt like the romance elements were somewhat secondary to the cosplaying anyway.
Also, this isn't specifically aimed at you. I have seen quite a few comments expressing similar sentiments online, and just saw an opportunity to speak my thoughts since I haven't done so in a while

i don't think i worded that part of my post very well, it was just meant to be quick thoughts and i should've explained myself better
i guess my problem (not really a problem either, just a difference in what i prefer) wasn't that i don't enjoy the cosplaying aspect or the other characters, it's that it all kinda ends up boiling down to "there's no shame in doing what you love". which is a fine a message but it's very much the "power of friendship" type thing where to me it just kinda loses it's impact after you've heard the 5th character of the season say it
as you said cloverworks did an amazing job at bringing the in world media to life, just story wise i wish the focus was more on the bond that marin and gojo are forming rather than what i would consider to be fairly repetitive backstories for the side characters - shunned or shamed for liking cosplay or anime/manga, learn that it's okay to like those things no matter your age or gender, embrace it, get told it's okay to like those no matter your age or gender, repeat
maybe i'm being a little reductive but that's just how a lot of the backstories came across to me
that's obviously a fault of the source material and not the show and it's not like it really hurt my overall enjoyment either because it is incredibly well made
gigguk's anime short came out today. kinda undercooked story wise imo but kevin penkin did his thing as always

It’s all good, I didn’t actually interpret your post as you having a big issue with it, it was more just me posting my thoughts from reading more aggressive sentiments somewhat similar to yours that I have been seeing online.
There was definitely a bigger emphasis on this motif around being confident in the hobbies that you partake in this season, and I can see how that can get stale. But under it all, I feel like it was all done to further develop Gojo’s character since he still wasn’t that comfortable with publicly sharing his doll-making interests with people outside of Marin.
I think the best example is when we get Amane’s backstory; Gojo is present here and there are a lot of camera shots panning back to show Gojo’s pained expression as Amane retells the time he was insulted for his interests because Gojo is also insecure about partaking in a hobby that can be seen as too strange/unorthodox.
There was a lot of Gojo focus this season, and I would say that a lot of the characters introduced here helped Gojo to work through the baggage that he has been carrying since S1 and hopefully the fruits of that will be shown in S3 (or a movie, since I heard there are only 30 chapters left to adapt)
average yaiba episode
https://www.sakugabooru.com/data/0da2029d9ea04b18f7085fe9cf6f8114.mp4The story is obviously dated and the characters are super one-dimensional, but I still really enjoy the show bc the presentation is so good.
They took down the website I'd use to keep up with all my manga 💔 rip comick
Whaaaaat? No wonder half of my s*** is broken on tochiyami
finished the millennium falcon arc in berserk
i think i preferred the conviction arc as a whole but the falconia chapter of the arc had some really great stuff. i especially liked the final few chapters where there's very minimal dialog and the reader gets to experience this world changing event almost in real time with the characters, very cool
Why do I torture myself by continuing to watch Gachiakuta?
This show has so many annoying characters

The sustainability & anti-consumerism/waste theme speaks to me, same reason I liked Wall-E
Engine and some of the cleaners are cool
The idea of turning a cherished item into what's basically a 'shikai' or 'fullbring' has many great possibilities
But the Protagonist, jabber, the artist girl, some of these annoying characters

Idk what it is about this show
I feel like it has all the elements I like, but for some reason it just bores the hell out of me

There's a lot of potential, a power system that matches the setting, but it feels all feels half baked
I've been trying to commit to watching at least one new show each crunchyroll season so I'll probably finish it up but it doesn't seem like it's gonna go anywhere
seems like the head of the raiders is obviously gonna be his Dad
