Run with the Wind - 9/10
"When you're running, you're running alone, but you're never actually alone"
Run with the wind is an anime both about determination and manhood. All the men in the track team come from different backgrounds and have different motivations, all of them coerced to join the team by Haiji. They all face challenges and achieve impressive results. I'm not a sports anime fan but it's hard not to get caught up in the hype and root for them. It's hard not to get emotional when you see a character struggle and break their own peak. It made me want to get up and run. If Prince can do it I can do it too. And he made me tear tf up.
The relationship between the members of the team is healthy and supportive. You can tell that at one point they all bring their value to the team and are all determined to achieve their goals. Some of the characters develop and grow, the lead one being Kakeru, the only "pro runner" in the team, who was always fast but never supported by his teammates, finally experiences a healthy bond with other men and brings his entire team up with him.
I can talk about this s*** all day like it's One Piece, it's hype. It's dramatic. And it's relatable. A lot of clever things are said even outside the context of running. You start to feel like part of the team.
P.S. Haiji is so gay for Kakeru
i finally got someone to watch this s***

Time to cover Takafumi Hori. Yes this one is very late, but due to time and circumstances I couldnât cover him last month on the 12th also due to him being born the same day as the super well known Takeshi Honda but here it is. Hori has been a saint in regards to fostering a streak of some of Studio Triggerâs best moments. Heâs one of the top animators at and outside of the studio, also cumulating a resumĂ© later in American animation like Steven Universe. So lets talk about his journey, what his strengths are and how he became an ace at Trigger and beyond.
Takafumi Hori from his inception wasnât necessarily interested in animation from the start more so in film. He graduated from The Film Department at Musashino University of Arts, and won the Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival with a short called A Story of The Nightâs Moon, the same year he would join Nippon Animation as an episode assistant director. Shortly after heâd move on to studio Madhouse, and this where he would come into his own as an animator.
Yes, Hori would have done some KA for Hajime No Ippo, but most would not be identified. I believe it was quite simple scenes. Throughout the years heâd do pretty trivial animation on some pretty basic titles for the time in the early 00s, but that would begin to change in 2003 when he would key animate on Takeshi Koikeâs Trava Fist Planet. Though he wouldnât have any standout scenes this would sow the seeds of fortunes by him meeting two of Gainaxâs top animators Hiroyuki Imaishi and Yoh Yoshinari. Yoshinariâs animation in particular would start to have a big influence on him, and though this title wouldnât have likely been his first exposure to Yoshinariâs animation it would it opened the door for him to animate with more identity.
His identity would start to come to fruition in 2004 with Shinichiro Watanabeâs Samurai Champloo, this would be some of the first truly identifiable KA we would see from Hori. From the get go his animation is very fast and quick. Being placed on sword fight scenes for such a young animator to be in charge of is a tough ask, and Hori pulled it off incredibly well.
Hori from 0:00 to 0:56
Hori from 0:49 to 1:01
The following years, Hori would do brief KA on several shows, Naruto Shippuden and Michiko and Hatchin are two noteworthy but the one he primarily worked on the most would be Koikeâs Redline in 2009. Out of all the other animators who worked on Redline the animator with the most scenes credited would be Hori himself. Tangoing with a animation force that is Takeshi Koike I imagine is incredibly difficult, and the mind-boggling degree of consistency Hori is able to keep paced at with Koike is to be admired. Not only is he juggling crowd scenes, warping animation, and character designs but also staying on model with cars.
As for character designs Hori wouldnât show any very obvious corrections by Koike, and had a bit more of a simplified look for most characters.
The next couple years Hori would make some subtle changes to his animation, but a major one would come on the animal movie Omae Umasou da na. An obvious Yoh Yoshinari influence would show in his animation on a dinosaur fight scene in the film, a lot of the grounded fight choreography would have shades of Otonariâs work on FLCL. sakugabooru.com/post/show/193683
