is skip and loafer actually good or is it the usual romcom/SoL s***
Well what do you not like about usual romcom/SoL s***?
These characters are cute and fun to see them interact with each other. It's a bit funnier than the usual rom coms that drop.

skip the loafer and run w the wind instead
I never said being a punch kick anime invalidates anything else an anime does well so I'm not sure why that was brought up, but I'll take the bait and say the majority of punch kick anime aimed at teenage boys aren't particularly good at anything else.
I was also never discussing what turns people off from anime. I was discussing why the medium will never be taken seriously. The fact that the aforementioned punch kick anime are revered as the peak of the medium and are the go-to options when trying to get someone into anime means the medium will never be taken seriously. Imagine a world where Marvel movies are considered the peak of film or a world where the Hunger Games is considered the peak of literature.
The insistence on using only punch kick anime as entry level suggestions just creates a feedback loop where as other anime fans age out of the medium, the only ones left are only there because they liked the punch kick anime initially suggested to them, and they will in turn suggest those punch kick anime to the set of fans and repeat the process. The anime audience in turn remains young and immature, and the fact that there's a notion among anime fans of aging out of the medium or becoming too old for anime says it all in regards to how seriously anime as a medium is viewed.

they usually use the boring same tropes every time like nerd mc gets the hot girl out of his league or mc has a harem, the usual beach ep etc all while having meh animation

I think the heavy proliferation of shonen anime vs the more critically acclaimed stuff like Miyazaki or Shinkai doesnβt leave a lot of room for other types of genres from the medium to rise up into the general conscious on the American side at least. Like romance anime, or dramas will not have that same level of success or be taken seriously whatsoever
I think itβs a cultural thing too unfortunately.

You didn't say it, but itt you constantly (and snarkly) dismiss the "punch kick" stuff - which I suppose just means popular, action-heavy shows that appeal to a younger audience (?).
Like are you saying a show like Mob Psycho, for example, doesn't have depth, or worthwhile themes? It certainly fits the "punch kick, targeted at teen boys" label.
To say that the majority "aren't particularly good at anything else" is a worthless remark - bc u can just as easily say that a HUGE percentage of the thousands of anime ever produced arent "particularly good" either.
What turns people off anime is directly linked to why it is not taken seriously - many people boil it down to oversexualized cartoons - which in turn conferes it a more immature nature than having a few mfs throw punches around could ever hope for.
Your last point is not an absolute truth either, and I am an example of that - as someone else previously stated popular shows (most of which happen to be action-heavy) simply serve as a gateway.
Edit: I can also expand on the marvel comment if u want.
I s*** on whatever the popular punch kick show is because they are bad yes. I s*** on whatever the popular isekai is because they are bad too, yes. If people propped up trash harems as the peak of the medium I would s*** on those too, but at least harem watchers are self-aware about what they are watching.
I'm confused on why you're still trying to bring up exceptions to the rule like some kind of gotcha. I never said being a punch kick show invalidated anything it does good. I thought Chainsaw Man had the second best cinematography of 2022 even though it was my least favourite show that year lol.
There are thousands of anime that aren't particularly good. But those thousands of anime don't get propped up and praised as the peak of the medium like punch kick shows do.
Two things can be true. The perception of anime being oversexualized means it is taken less seriously. The propping up of punch kick shows aimed at teenage boys is also a major contributor to it being taken less seriously as well. Again, you will never have a world where Marvel movies or the Hunger Games will be considered the peak of their respective mediums because film and literature are considered legitimate art forms that adults engage with.
the only discussion that should take place in this thread is if a show/manga is hard or not, stop this nerd s*** π

"they are bad yes" in your opinion, totally fair. But if other people take value from them, nothing gives you the right to ridicule said people.
I find it funny that you speak almost of a vague objective metric. Your last point is funny bc both the hunger games novel and some mcu movies have received acclaim from both the public at large and critics in the respective fields. By all metrics, adults are positively engaging with them. You're engaging artistic appreciation thru a very elitist lense.
Btw, my observation wasnt meant to be a "gotcha", it was simply a counter to your sweeping generalizations. But I'm glad at least you conceded on the sexualization angle.
skip and loafer? HARD
demon slayer? NOT
Demon Slayer is popular for a reason.
Skip and Loafer was such a pleasant discovery. I'm really loving it so far. So wholesome.

It's one of the better shows this season, but it has all the same beats. No harem though, and it's a country side girl excited to be in the big city

naw this discussion kinda hard tho
If thinking that more than just punch kick shows aimed at teenage boys should be recommended to new watchers is elitist, then I'll happily be elitist.
Whats the one anime where dude was trained as an assassin (had a female assassin in it too).

Also for the discussion above about anime and movies, a lot of the recommendations are male focused as well lol
