frieren is not the type of shonen that shonen haters hate on though. shonen haters hate battle shonen specifically, cause they tend to be vapid and lacking depth in multiple areas, which you can't say about frieren. no one is a "shonen hater" in the most literal sense cause shonen encapsulates everything from demon slayer to aria the animation

i know some manga readers said frieren does turn into a battle shonen later in the series and that might be true but it isn't that right now. in 25 episodes the series has already explored it's characters more than jjk was able to do in 2 seasons and a movie, despite both of them being "shonen"

and the frieren we have been watching for the last 2 arcs is also "just" a battle shounen

The Aura arc and the Mage exam arc have been the worst parts of Freiren yes

The only in-depth characters are Frieren and maybe Stark.

Everyone else are just cool little characters interacting with the trio.

which is totally cool but people just make up s***. Its completely fine to mostly explore your main cast in 20 episodes. Frieren is a gorgeous show and deserves all the flowers it gets but fellas need to drop the act. They wanna dunk on shonen but then enjoy a shonen like bruh it hurts my shonen loving heart.

that's not pretentious? i've watched plenty of battle shonen and some of my highest rated shows are things like bleach, jojo. hxh, opm, etc. i'm a weekly reader of dandadan, csm, op and even watched over 1000 episodes of op. i'm not above shonen at all. jjk just has some of the absolutely worst writing i've seen in the genre

it's not the "battle" part of battle shonen that shonen haters hate, it's the lack of character exploration, story and world building that often accompany it. frieren can get away with having battle arcs cause it's already established it's characters and world and made you care for them

im not gonna discuss jujutsu kaisen here I already do that plenty enough in the seperate thread its obvious I disagree with you on the critique its alright.

i simply responded because i thought you had a misunderstanding of the types of shonen people don't like and the issues they have with it and i thought my explanation might help you understand a different perspective

it's not pretentious for me to say that i think frieren explored it characters better than jjk ever has, that's my conclusion based on watching everything they've both had animated. if you feel different, cool, but there's a reason why the most popular critiques of jjk across all different forms of social media have to do with it's characters and their lack of depth and it's not cause everyone else is a pretentious shonen hater

every single response from you has just been "no u". i don't have to prove my opinion to you by going through a list of characters and explaining how they're better than a jjk counterpart because 1. that's unrealistic and 2. i clearly didn't mean every single character that has ever appeared on screen. i'm not asking you to explain why you think jjk characters are well written either. i literally just have my opinion and for some reason you're deciding to be needlessly pedantic about the whole thing
