frieren is not the type of shonen that shonen haters hate on though. shonen haters hate battle shonen specifically, cause they tend to be vapid and lacking depth in multiple areas, which you can't say about frieren. no one is a "shonen hater" in the most literal sense cause shonen encapsulates everything from demon slayer to aria the animation
i know some manga readers said frieren does turn into a battle shonen later in the series and that might be true but it isn't that right now. in 25 episodes the series has already explored it's characters more than jjk was able to do in 2 seasons and a movie, despite both of them being "shonen"
hes been baiting like this ever since the jjk discussion itt, should have ignored that post imma be honest bro
Whats your anilist
dont have one
every single response from you has just been "no u". i don't have to prove my opinion to you by going through a list of characters and explaining how they're better than a jjk counterpart because 1. that's unrealistic and 2. i clearly didn't mean every single character that has ever appeared on screen. i'm not asking you to explain why you think jjk characters are well written either. i literally just have my opinion and for some reason you're deciding to be needlessly pedantic about the whole thing
not one of my responses has been a no u. Am I talking to a robot?! its also insanity how I didnt mention jjk at all and you keep trying to lure me back into the discussion apperantly knowing I am in the other thread alot. And admittetly with my last post you got me engaging in it even tho I had 0 intention of ever doing so.
When I made my original post i didnt even have a single user in this thread in mind and suddenly you lot act like I had bad intentions
Broo I swear to god if we dont get the second half of the manga animated Im gonna nuke this thread with dungeon meshi gifs for 2 years straight
Run with it king
it's not pretentious for me to say that i think frieren explored it characters better than jjk ever has, that's my conclusion based on watching everything they've both had animated. if you feel different, cool, but there's a reason why the most popular critiques of jjk across all different forms of social media have to do with it's characters and their lack of depth and it's not cause everyone else is a pretentious shonen hater
now excuse me while i go watch hokkaido gals are super adorable
hokkaido gals are super adorable another goat take

Anyways Im sorry I derailed thread my stupid debate lord behavior. Dunno why I cant stop
Somebody read this?
Remember being hooked by the first few chapters and then dropping it cause it kinda went weird
The Aura arc and the Mage exam arc have been the worst parts of Freiren yes

Not sure about when the exact volume came out but should be late 90s or early 2000s

I fail to see the depth in Frieren's characters. Fern is really annoying if we are keeping it real. The main trio has no real chemistry together. It doesn’t even feel like they are friends because they just respond to each other in a cold way most of the time. The point of Frieren's story was already made in the first chapter. Most stories after that are just "Frieren goes to a new town. Something reminds her of Himmel. Audience gets reminded about the passage of time. The end.“
The series gets better once the Hunter exam arc is over but I just don’t see the depth. It’s still solid story nonetheless

to me the constant retreading of where frieren went with himmel and the experiences they had reinforces the idea of why this time the journey with fern and stark is different. now she's visibly taking the time to enjoy the moments with her new friends in a way she didn't really with himmel and the others. she's valuing time despite having so much of it, which shows growth and a newfound appreciation for those around her. i don't find fern annoying at all but i could see why someone might. i find the cold and deadpan responses to be a pretty funny dynamic between the group. i think they play off each other really well, especially fern and stark.
i'm not at all claiming that frieren is some ultra deep show, i was just comparing it's writing to jjk cause even though they're both "shonen", the way they explore their characters is radically different. which was really the only point i was trying to make as to why someone could be a "shonen hater" but like frieren

Alright, I get your point now. I think that 'shonen haters' just like Frieren more because it presents itself as more sophisticated and more calm than a typical battle shonen which makes them believe that it's deeper. It's a good show regardless but the 'deep' tag just never made sense to me.
