I know not an anime, but I just binge read through an entire manga called Gal Gahon and it's essentially about a highschool girl sexually assaulting her male teach the entire time to seduce him.

think it’s more of a subconscious thing that most people don’t even realize they’re doing. certain anime are def created with that in mind tho

This is with a lot of seinin mangas. You build the character enough to do s*** with the plot, but generic enough where the reader just places themselves in the story as a fantasy. That's most fiction, but this s*** is specifically made to sell you that fantasy lol

Harry Potter is an american version of that if you're trying to compare it to western media.

It makes sense anime is escapism so you lowkey want to live in the world where you're the main character and surrounded by girls.

It's called self-insert usually when it's a main character who's just "normal" so the viewer can pretend they're them.

I think it's also the reason a lot of anime happen in high school. It's because after high school a lot of Japanese people work and don't have that much fun anymore. They want to feel that nostalgia.

unless it's a certified Golden Boy or Rent A GF type of situation where worst case is a case of blue balls then self inserting aint worth it

Idk I can see it I guess, I've watched some of the shows named they were talking about last page and I viewed them as characters, I never like self interested myself into their position

Viewing a tv show in that way is just not something that would cross my mind unless it's some scenario type show or something. My mind more so goes to the outlandish or craziness of the scenario itself than to insert into the scenario or character I'd say

I can't really insert myself in One Piece as anyone I just wanna be their friend

i see what people mean talking about how romcom mcs can be easy for losers to self insert into but i feel like its really reductive to alot of the characters to just say thats all they're made for

thats why isekai are trash imo

the only purpose of the rebirth concept exists to serve losers with a sense of ''it's okay you're a failure, you get to try again under your own terms''

ya i think it depends on the isekai. some do it well i.e. re:zero

ofc exceptions exist everywhere

even some ''artsy'' or ''critically acclaimed'' anime get too much praise just off a pretentious cult following
