I watched the first thunderbolt gundam movie too today and wow, that s*** was amazing

the artstyle, the animation, the ''rich'' space landscape....the characters all had their moments (some good, some bad). The themes it went into felt almost too much for a mecha

like damn, watching this movie right after watching the violet evergarden movie some days ago, I'm going to go into Bubble with the highest expectations ever....them s***s forever destroyed anime movies to me

bubble kinda mid unless you’re into parkour and mermaids then it might be fire

I dont see why I have to relate to the anime's themes tho

cant stress this enough but most mech animes dont even be about the mechs once you get pass that its smooth sailing from then on

they're promoted as mechs to death tho

something somewhere went wrong in the process....whether it's the posters or trailers i dunno

if I knew gundam has politics and war tactics it wouldnt be on my backburner as a ''cool mech to check out'' but I never saw it as such

Tbh all mechs ive seen never were only about mechs, i dont even know where that narrative started

for me it started with the mech label

whenever someone hears ''mech anime'' they might imagine ''oh its just robots fighting on some transformers s***'' without thinking it could have layers upon layers of dope s***

and by ''they'' I mean me in this case but it applies to many ppl

we all know code geass is more than mechs but the same doesnt apply for every mech anime cause the branding and cash grabbing gravitates towards the figures they can sell and s*** like that

in the case of gundam its used to entice you into watching the show and buying gunpla

the mechs play a small role in the grand scheme of things. same thing applies to evangelion, code geass, w/e
