Alright y'all doing the most saying a genre is not just a genre itself

If it has a s***load of mecha's then it's a mecha show lol.

Well the main argument is that it's more of a setting than a genre. Two different comedies, regardless of their setting, are both aiming to get the viewer to laugh. Two different mecha, outside of both having big machines, can have two completely different goals.

Gurren Lagann is basically an adventure-action story, while SSSS.Gridman is basically a character-driven drama story. You could replace the mecha in both of them with some other fancy new coat of paint (like superpowers for example) and not much would need to be changed narratively.

the only mechs ive seen are eva, flcl (technically), gurren lagann, and code geass

of all of these the mechs were never the main focus unless you count evangelion's plot twist

Feel like the only people who say this don’t watch mecha, which is a lot of people tbh. Or they’ve only watched Eva, which is probably more likely

But its funny that the one thing you can say without any doubts about eva is that its more than just about the mechas lol. Guess its a mystery that will never be solved
