You didn't like it?
I thought it was one of the most genius ideas to come out of manga and it worked wonderfully. Didnt expect vinland saga to take that turn at all but im so glad it happended
too slow
@Stardust @Yurinator thanks bruhders. I'll start reading GTO soon

I get there's alot of development for canute and thorfinn but it feels like a downgrade after that amazing prologue
Don’t scare me fam I’m still on szn 1
LMAO my bad, it’s not what you’re probably thinking based on that post though

I see where you're coming from, but imo slave arc is just as good as prologue.
Thorfinn's growth as a character is brilliant and unexpected, but as you read it totally makes sense. Slave arc might seem slow because its uneventful compared to the eventful prologue, but it serves to reflect thorfinn's slow, mundane life and the slow transition from a ruthless warrior who lives for revenge to a man his father would be proud of. Askeladd despite being dead is still crucial to this arc because despite having been the root of thorfinn's hate, in this arc he's fundamental in throfinn's epiphany that makes him change his perspective in life drastically change and ultimately gives him a new reason to live. Canute's growth is also fascinating, as in the prologue he thought of himself as someone who would bring peace to the world by doing what God couldn't and, while succeeding in bringing a period of wealth to his territories, he betrayded his own beliefs to reach that goal, sacrificing a few for the benefit of the majority. Also, his father's theory of the crown taking control of the king is displayed for the first time in this arc and it shows how nobody, not even the seemingly pure Canute, could escape from that curse. Also we're introduced to another important character in Einar which is one of my favorites.
It's definitely slower in terms of action but it makes up for it with crazy introspection on the main characters

this is a great post.
I didnt think of this arc that way.
I got some of the introspection and the askeladd references but I didnt get the meaning of the crown
and in most chapters throfinn was too passive but that had to happen too
damn fam, I felt like I was wasting my time but most of it went over my head

For how I see it, the crown is greed. Once a king puts on the crown, all their ideals are put aside in service of the crown, so kings begin to act to maintain that crown, having to resort to cruel things too. Canute still isn't in that phase yet but the effect of the crown on him is slowly become to appear. Maybe Canute will be able to control the crown and not let it control him but we'll have to see. As it stands, both Canute and Thorfinn have the same goal but are using different methods.

If I've learned anything from VS is that anyone can be broken...whether it's the strongest warrior or the most noble leader.
I think the crown is a reflection of how leadership can be detrimental.
It could be greed, fear, hate... I dunno at this point. The moment someone becomes a king they can have anything they ever wished for....but instead of finding peace in that, they end up having even more demons to deal with than before,
Canute started off as a kind soul but he ended up renouncing his faith and being worse than both his father and brother whereas throfinn started as a hateful warrior in search of revenge that got ''rehabilitated'' during the slave arc

Such a great manga, feel like an anime announcement is imminent, its too popular not to have one
Finished re zero season 1. Respects to Subaru I don’t think he’s a cuck anymore. Ended up liking this more than I expected. I better see Rem shine in season 2
