the anime’s I skim through are kinda like the shows/movies I’ll put on just to have something going in the background while I browse my phone/do s*** around the house.
s*** that I don’t need to fully pay attention to (or watch) to get the point
doesn’t mean I don’t want to watch it just don’t need to watch every single side characters back story/flashback unless it’s a top tier anime
I feel you man I’ve just been watching early One Piece episodes lately when I used to be watching a new anime every week

Stopped watching one piece at around episode 140 cause it was almost like a second job tryna catch up to current episode lol but Been meaning to get back into it.. it’s one of those anime’s that I gotta be in the mood for.. but I know whenever I do restart one piece I’ll end up going through a binge phase.

I read the manga a while ago
Everything post time skip is blurry for me though I read it too fast
But it’s great that’s why I’m watching the first arcs again
I should watch Yu Yu Hakusho
If it’s old animation and similar to HXH it’s probably for me
but tbh I’m already halfway through season 2 of kuroku basketball and I would drop it if I had something else to replace it w but I don’t cause I’m really picky when it comes to anime (that requires full attention)
like the story and characters could be amazing but if I don’t like how the art style is/how the characters look I’m not gonna watch it
edit: actually I do have like 1 or 2 anime I wanna watch but I’m just not in the mood for something I gotta pay full attention to right now. Been meaning to watch devilman crybaby cause I love that directors style but everytime I hover over it on netlflix I’m like nah I don’t think I’m in the mood for something like this right now. And then I’ll put on kuroku basketball and skim thru like 10 eps
Devilman Crybaby goes f***ing crazy

The Chapter Black arc has pretty HxH-esque writing
Other than that a lot of the parallels are superficial and just come down to Togashi repurposing his old ideas with better execution

nana
natsuyuki rendezvous
nodame cantabile
planetes
sing yesterday
these are the only ones I can think of.
Some of em not that good but romance anime hit different for each person
Golden time is College setting
seen it but i didnt really like it the main guy came off bipolar af (which i think was the point or something really weird and too fantasy esque)
thank you for the suggestion though

highschool romance anime not that bad tbh since most highschool boys and girls in anime have way deeper ways of thinking than real life highschoolers
when I was 17 I just wanted to bust a nut but anime 17 yos are like freud on steroids....not that weird considering some 30 yo men wrote most of em
still cringy tho due to awkwardness

i mean i 100% agree but i feel like when the show already takes place in hs i feel like it falls into the same tropes every other show has. even rent a girlfriend and that one show with the girl with the glasses were hs but done tastefully so i still try to keep an eye out but i wish there was more filmography with a like college setting
also its really awkward when you put it like that lol a random 30 yr old man casually writing out a really deep and flushed out 16 year old anime girl with twintails

yeah you have a point
I enjoy hs romance more if I can see my teenage self in one of the characters or if the setting is something special like Bunny Girl Senpai
Tropes can either break or make an anime, look at Love is war which twists all tropes into a fun show. It's like the jojo of rom coms

That's ok
Not a lot of anime can recreate that feel
