@FLIZZY Explained honorifics pretty well.
I don't really know what you mean by the 2nd part, could you find a clip of an anime you watched where this happened? It would really help in understanding what you want explained.
I think they misunderstood when Japanese talk to someone in second person, they don't use "you" but instead they say the person's name.
I’m not sure about talking in third person. I know “anta” is “you” but I think they might switch between this and third person. Maybe it’s to say “I love you, James” instead of “I love James” as in the you can be dropped.
If they address themselves in third person I think it’s a quirk. Usually when a character is childish and not really a common thing
Edit: I checked and apparently “anata” is disrespectful!
"Anata" is a word with several connotations from a disrespectful "you" to being closer to "my darling" like a wife would say to their husband.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, I just wanted to be sure haha. I don't watch with subs as much anymore so I wasn't sure what he was talking about, but I know that subs can have some weird grammatical wording because of subbers trying to make direct TLs, so I thought it might've been something like that.

They were talking about manga translations. Pretty sure manga fan subs are sometimes translated by Google Translate and that's what's creating the language barrier

Word, this makes perfect sense. Unfortunately for some less popular series that's the only option :(
Japanese speakers are scarce, and Japanese speakers that want to translate your favorite manga are even more scarce. so sad.

Yep and some translators only know Weebanese so that's limiting
Lol even childhood friends the girl will call the guy “oni chan” in some shows
Yeah man some of this stuff really confused me lol. Like of course I can still follow the story, but I'm like wtf is this! Just use their first name or last name and leave it at that.

With the third person stuff idk if it even happens in anime. I watch all anime subtitled too and never was confused with honorifics until I actually sat down and read manga. I'll try to search for the third person stuff when I have time, but literally it's in everything I have read thus far.

Okay, so that's just how Japanese people speak in real life?

Can't say that I'm just a guy on the internet not from Japan. I think they do tho lol

If you like send me a page I can tell you, I speak Japanese but without knowing what you mean exactly it's hard to explain lol
It's cool, I totally understand.
Regrets from the past are a central theme in the story, and I think almost everyone has those, so yeah it could make you feel sad.
I wouldn't recommend it to you rn, maybe try some lighter shows?
Gave it a shot, holy fk it’s good fam. On ep 4 right now, definitely can ride the sadness it has (it’s tolerable). I don’t mind if you spoil this one part for me, because I’m gonna use it as a decision to continue or not -
But does he save end up saving her? And live with her in the future or?
Steins Gate 0 reminds me so much of this Black Mirror episode where this girl communicates with an AI imitating her dead husband.
Dorohedoro so heat bruh
read the manga once you’re done with the anime, seriously one of the most batshit insane things i’ve ever read i love it. and it’s got enough material for them to make like 3 more seasons of anime
