I haven’t been interested or hyped enough from the manga content to watch the last two MHA seasons…

I’ll watch whenever the anime gets to the arc we just finished in the manga.

    You haven't missed anything

    What did they not show???

The manji, basically the original swastika, symbol of prosperity and good luck that the tokyo manji gang uses. Its funny that they didnt censor the name but censored the symbol, really shows how ignorant the people who would've complained are

Megalo box 2 knocked my expectations out of the park, its been amazing so far, in some ways even better than season 1. Went from thinking it didnt need a season 2 to being thankful we got one

S***s on s1 so far tbh

Thought s1 was just a mediocre boxing drama for most of its time tbh. S2 so far has been a lot more effective.

On the real tho, f*** Sachio. I love seeing that punk get knocked out

Vivy and Fruits Basket season 3 have been the standouts tbh. Both are exceptional

After that, 86, Hige Wo Soru, Megalo Box 2, To Your Eternity are all really damn good as well

MHA is mid atm but I think it’ll get better once we get to ep 11-12 this season

Nah season 1 was great imo. Granted, it took a lot from ashita no joe which is a masterpiece but i enjoyed my time with it. Season 2 definitely surprised me tho and i hope it keeps this quality till the end

You think mappa is gonna include everything in the manga with no censors?

Likely depends on which block of Japanese television it's aired on.

Night block = more liberal with censorship

Anything else = likely to be some censorship of anything over the top

It's basically just them covering their asses when localizing the show. The sad truth is most people are not like us that do research and understand that it is not literally a nazi swastika, and if it became a big deal Crunchyroll wouldn't be able to take control of the narrative.

Just imagine plastered on SMS and google "CRUNCHYROLL SUPPORT NAZIS IN NEW ANIME TOKYO REVENGERS"

edit: read down because this guess of mine was wrong, looked into it and
TL;DR: Anime studios censor for public broadcast releases, Crunchyroll only has access to those public broadcast releases

They could've put a disclaimer explaining what it is but they're too lazy for that i guess

I actually looked a little bit into this. So, the only thing Crunchyroll is responsible for (to my understanding from what I've read) is subtitling the show. They don't do any video editting or censoring of the content, the publisher who releases the content (not sure who the publisher for Tokyo Revengers is) to Crunchyroll to subtitle.

TL;DR: Not Crunchyroll's fault on this one, blame lies with whoever entrusted Tokyo Revengers to Crunchyroll to sub, because they did the censoring for the release.

I know that there is both a censored and uncensored version of it and in japan the uncensored version is airing so im guessing crunchyroll might have asked the publisher to censor it for them

The way it works is that Crunchyroll has deals with certain publishers to deliver - usually this entitles the version being broadcast on public television.

The version of Tokyo Revengers uncensored likely come from premium channels (think like how we have to pay for certain cable channels in the USA/west, idk if you're from there sorry for making the assumption). Fansubbers can access and sub this content because they pirate it, Crunchyroll is limited to whatever they get sent.

Getting the uncensored version would involve raising Crunchyroll's subscription fee by a good amount (because they would have to pay more to access the uncensored content that is only airing on premium TV channels), so I assume this isn't an option for them.

I'll repeat: This is a simulcast. There is not time to 'ask the publisher to edit the episode' and censor anything. There is plenty of uncensored content on Crunchyroll, usually because they acquired the rights to home video releases (which are typically uncensored), but for simulcasts like Tokyo Revengers it simply isn't realistic.

TL;DR: Once again, it's not Crunchyroll's fault, this falls with the studios/publishers in Japan censoring the version meant for public broadcast.

I guess you're right, but at this point i wonder what's the reason to have two versions if crunchyroll had no problem with that symbol

Because they also air a censored version in Japan.

Typically uncensored versions for shows like Tokyo Revengers will be available on premium channels you have to pay subscriptions to (think similar to HBO), while the censored version airs on public broadcast that most people see.

They do this because when the series is finished, they'll advertise the bluray as "UNCUT UNCENSORED" and make a metric f***ton of money off of it.

Basically, Crunchyroll isn't even in consideration when censoring these shows. They're an afterthought. It's all about money.

Ive read around that in japan only the uncensored version was shown but they might have been wrong so you're probably right. Still a stupid thing, luckily i can watch the uncensored version
