Man I respect your opinion, but I HATED Gundam. So much so in fact that I never watched any Mecha series until Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Then I checked out Geass and finally this year Evangelion. I was missing out on an entire anime genre for no reason lol.

Watching the first episode of every show this season to choose the "good" ones was a mistake. Now I'm just bored watching a bunch of mid shows without the spice of being able to hate-watch dogshit shows.

Others to consider I think is Conan and Doraemon. Both got giga impact throughout Asia and in western to some degree, both still an active franchise. Imo these still beats Sailor Moon (which these days are only seen as a cool factor outside its fanbase)

Gundam is many series under one umbrella. Also it leans more towards a hobbyist interest through its merch, like getting into tcg and lego

It is. Like I said. I hated mecha. But that series changed my mind about everything. I would highly recommend it.

IDK man.... I loved Ghost In a Shell and other anime with depth... I honestly can't even remember what it was about Gundam, but I am just happy I got over it and there are many great mecha anime series.
