“ Yeah, you can come up with any excuse you want about how you like Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru for the plot or the atmosphere. We know that, deep down, you’re just looking for some hot boys spending all their time with one another and getting more intimate than they ever could with any girls.”

Just because a show doesn't blatantly show homosexual relationships doesn't mean that it couldn't reasonably be there. 99.9% of anime will never show a homosexual relationship.

Queer-bait (e.g., Hibike Euphonium, SK8) is not particularly rare in anime. It lets an anime attract the LGBTQ audience without outright saying two characters are in a relationship. The LGBTQ audience gets their fan service through subtext, while the straight audience just pretends the subtext isn't there (or completely misses the subtext in the first place.)

By the way, the author of Run with the Wind has written boy's love in past. At the very least, if someone told me Haiji and Kakeru were a viable romantic couple, I wouldn't necessarily disagree with them.

I watched only the very popular mechas:

    Neon Genesis Evangelion
    FLCL
    Code Geass
    Gurren Lagann
    Darling In the Franxx

My opinion of all of them is that the mecha part is never the interesting part. That's why I don't think I'll be into Gundam, where I think it's all about mecha and mecha lore (or am I wrong?)

One I was interested in was Eureka Seven. Didn't watch it yet because it's long but apparently the characters are good.

Mecha is only really good where it serves as foil for the characters. Like in Evangelion or FLCL. The battles are supposed to represent actual character themes and progression. Even then I prefer one on one fights.

nah gundam's mostly about the characters as well the mechs only serve the purpose of achieving peace (as crazy as that might sound)

Yuri On Ice which is known as a gay anime didn't even go all the way, yes Yuri and Victor kiss once and get each other "friendship rings"? But they never go so far to say they're gay or that they have a romantic relationship.

The only anime I've seen where there's an openly LGBTQ character is Ouran High School Host Club, where there is a lot of queer baiting but also Haruhi's Dad is a cross dresser, and they present it as a normal thing and not as a funny joke.

What most anime do is they have a character acting gay or even dressed as a woman but they never say "this character is LGBTQ" I guess they're afraid they'll lose audience? But then who watches these obviously gay anime? Also having a "trap" character as a joke because they "trick" you into thinking they're a woman is a trans-phobic trope. For some reason it's not out of fashion like the "pervy best friend" trope, they just continue having these characters in new anime.

You'd think because of anime fandom that we'd be more accepting and willing to see LGBTQ characters in our favorite anime. Fans even pretend non-gay characters are gay just for their pleasure (usually girls because weebs are h****. But you see a lot of yaoi ships like in MHA).

I also want to mention One Piece because I'm never sure if it's homophobic or not. As an audience member you like Bon Clay who is likely gay and also other characters who might be transgender but they never say they are. Plus a lot of it is about accepting other people. Sometimes they'd make a joke about it like Sanji's two years in the cross dresser island, this is a running joke about Sanji not being attracted to transgender people and it's super weird.

Edit: Hunter x Hunter has queer baiting too. Gon and Killua is the most obvious ship ever.

There’s an episode where Sanji gets a blood donation, and he thinks it’s from hot girls, but apparently it’s cross dressing men who are like “Yoo-hoo” and he makes like a disgusted face.

Idk it feels meaner than a regular “haha man wear dress” joke. At least they were kind enough to give him blood.
