Is Goodnight Punpun just sadness and trauma just for the sake of it or is there some sort of message here? Just finished part 2 and all I feel is sadness

I've always thought the point of punpuns character design was for the reader to become him, thus the message will differ for everyone.
It showcases the effects childhood trauma has on adult life really well. That being said, I didn't really like the ending so a clear message was lost on me too lol.

depends on what you mean by message, you probably wont come away with a grand moral of the story or anything, but it will definitely give you a lot to reflect upon. youll probably see for yourself later on but all ill say is that if you think its sad now, you better prepare yourself for whats coming

ive been really enjoying watching fruits basket weekly tbh, the moment to moment emotional beats hit a lot harder when u let them breathe, whereas i think i kinda got desensitized to it while binging the first two seasons
