Would’ve been nice to see the goodbye party or something but still a perf ending for me <3

There’s also gonna be a spin off with Tohru’s mom so that’s gonna be nice. 2022 I think

    Wow that’s amazing! Awesome

And yeah it was a great ending. I’m happy at how Yuki kinda started and ended it. Beautiful fam

Akito bloomed, that was honestly shocking and was a great part too

I hate finishing shows. What am I supposed to do now

eggbros dont go into the new special expecting an hour of original content, apparently half of it is gonna be recap so new content comes out to being just a normal episode's length.

Well whether or not it’s coming from a source material, the execution alone is very restrictive

You can tell the hard cut requirement for the promised neverland seasons to be 12 eps a season is what led to s2 being a train wreck

Similarly even when C&T was allowed to be 2 cour, it likely ended up being Watanabes worst work because of repetitive and surface level it was and I feel a lot of Netflix anime in general have this problem. Even Violet Evergarden, despite its fantastic animation, had this exact issue as well

I’m really just going off of Netflix because I think for wages to get better, that’s what studios will have to turn into

my guy.. netflix just licensed the streaming rights for Violet Evergarden.... that was all KyoAni.......

    "just licensed"

You realize they still have to negotiate and agree with these companies about the kind of anime they want made for their company right? Even if they aren't involved in the creation process, licensors can still negotiate what they want or don't want in the content.

these anime studios making these works know fully that they are making it for a western audience. Its not like its some anime freshly made that they just happen to ship off to Netflix now. Its made to be corporate and commercialized for a western audience.

the scene with tohru’s mom asking kyo to protect her but she was struggling to get it out bc of the injury…. that hit me the hardest

I feel like if they’re able to add new scenes or decide the order or the arcs to adapt, that is due to creative control

It would be logical to take on less anime but unfortunately, they want to make money. So they’re only going to want to make more and more anime. This is why I feel once we get to a point where animators are paid better and there’s more out there in these studios, it’ll only be because these studios will be s***ting out tons of corporate mediocre anime and we will never see creative ones dropping.

That one actually could be a production decision, because apparently there's a movie coming related to this arc.

Also they had filler episodes throughout the late seasons and they stretched arcs (the competition arcs felt stretched) to fit it into a cour.

Also it seems like creatively the director doesn't get to do a lot of unconventional scenes? Compare it to other anime that have more ambitious fighting scenes, even Mob Psycho 100 which is from the same studio.

It might be the director's decision but I don't see him do a lot with this creative freedom. MHA seems like a very easygoing, accessible, marketable franchise.

Honestly the webtoon format these manhwas have is kind of like cheating because they have more empty background than viewers would realize. The average content told in a chapter is a lot less than what is done in a manga. Maybe like 8 to 12 manga pages

Also peep A Wonderful New World. That's my favorite manhwa

Ho-Seung, an unpopular office worker who works for one of the largest corporations in Korea, is crouched over like a sinner because he was accused of setting up a camera in the women’s bathroom. In the end, however, he was proven to be innocent. Then one day, he was suddenly notified of his reassignment by the team manager. It seemed that she was victorious, until…

These are corporate only in the number, but it’s clear when you see the kind of anime being made that there is a lot respect for the creatives to make what they want and their styles are retained. Like when it comes to the Netflix anime, every anime they produce, you just get this very restricted feel to all of them. They all seem watered down and they all follow a generic structure of being around 11-13 eps. It’s not like Re:Zeros first season where you will get 25 eps that allow for changing up entire post credits sequences or literally getting a drastic boost in the animation quality randomly for a crazy fight scene in the latter half of the season.

Yeah they’re corporate in the number of anime they want to produce, but they aren’t restricting these creatives to make only one type of anime and they let a lot of their directors do exactly what they want. With the Netflix anime, s*** is so watered down and you can tell the creatives are being told to make this s*** safe.

Again, I don’t think it’s the issue of POPULARITY or QUANTITY. It’s the issue of creativity and it’s just obvious with Netflix that creatives are heavily restricted. This is also why when it comes to movies and TV, they force the filmmakers to shoot with only one kind of camera because they require a 4K mandate. This is why all their s*** has the exact same visual aesthetic. Netflix is a death haven for creativity

Netflix been all misses since Devilman Crybaby. I wanted to watch B The Beginning because it kept popping up but everyone told me it's mid.

yea honestly im inclined to agree with that too, especially with only 1 episode length to try and turn things around. my opinion of the show has soured quite a bit since ive watched it but hopefully they can still salvage some of it here

yeah funny enough I was reading an article that was also bringing up the weird thing about how "off" these Netflix anime feel and he said the same thing that he thought Netflix could be the force for funding anime that is too adult or "weird" for streamers like Crunchyroll/Funi when Devilman Crybaby came out

but since then, the trend has been that they are funding really "western" oriented visions that play it safe to a lot of the Hollywood tropes whether its B the Beginning or The Great Pretender or Carole & Tuesday, which feels more like a Disney musical than an anime.

can you link me showing me where violet evergarden was made "for" netflix

legit curious, i thought this was just a case of kyoani getting their show licensed

edit: also, i'd love some sources supporting that anime licensed by netflix are tailored and made "for western audiences", lol. things made and produced by netflix, sure, but either there's something i haven't seen or you are off your rocker if you think most of these animation studios are making anime marketed at a western audience lol

The Great Pretender is actually pretty good, rare hit from Netfix on that 1.

They won't undo the background story which is the biggest flaw so there's that.

Another thing that bothered me was lack of closure. Out of the girls only Ai got closure and a character moment. Rika and Momoe's ending was pretty grim. Like they couldn't even get comfort in their friends being "saved" whatever that means because their cute pets got gruesomely killed a minute later.

We also didn't see Neiru meet her sister and "save" her, which I assumed will be in the finale. Since it's just a single episode worth of content and it's supposed to be about Ai fighting the big bad, I don't know where they'll put it. They can have Neiru join her since she didn't get traumatized or even reveal that her sister is somehow related to the evil robots, but I don't know how they'll pull it off.

I feel like Wonder Egg Priority should've been about the main characters and how they deal with loss, survivor's guilt, depression and they're all supposed to have an arc. That's why the ending felt like a spit in the face so I hope they fixed it a little.

they absolutely are when its for anime. You really think Neo Yokio, Yasuke, Great Pretender, B the Beginning, Japan Sinks, Carole and Tuesday have not been made with a western audience in mind? Like cmon man lmao

Sure there is something like Devilman Crybaby or Dorohedoro which breaks from the norms, but these shows are few and far between from how obvious most their shows are tailored for a western audience.

Just realized Funi actually licensed VE not Netflix. So my bad on that one.

I think its okay. Gorgeously animated and drawn but I think definitely because of the need to have marketed towards a Western audience causes it to greatly try to mimic other heist/thief stories except its made so much more ridiculous in the logic behind the schemes.

I would say by far its the worst thing Wit has done from what I have seen.
