Still to this day my favorite anime of all time. Only show that’s matched it for me in 10 years has been attack on titan

(Yes this will be my answer everytime someone asks for new anime to watch )

I peeped the first episode it was cool but it’s hard for me to get into shows like this I’m too institutionalized by action anime’s

cmon man don’t be that guy. It’s one of the most popular shows of all time. A classic that just so happens to be literally the easiest anime to jump into. You can binge watch the entire thing over a weekend. You niggas talking one piece and s*** with 500 episodes lmao I’m not gonna recommend dude a straight up shonen right off the bat and have him wade through a bunch of filler and archetypal tropes just to decide if he likes anime or not. Better to show someone the absolute heights this s*** can reach in the shortest amount of time and Bebop is without question one of those shows.

Never gotten into any anime shows ever, if I wanted to start where would be a good jumping point?

    If you're into horror/scary themes:

Attack on Titan (this is the GOAT)
    Death Note
    Castlevania
    Demon Slayer

  • Jan 28, 2021

    Angel Cop

  • Jan 28, 2021

I started with One Piece, then Dragon Ball and DBZ. Never really watched them when I was a kid.

I also watched s1 of My Hero Academia. I liked it, but animes are just way too long.

  • Jan 28, 2021

Fullmetal Alchemist (OG first imo), Death Note, maybe Attack on Titan are the best shows to start with.

  • Jan 28, 2021

y’all know every single one of you don’t need to rec him Attack on Titan, right?

Bebop is more catered to westeners tho, and being episodic at times doesnt detract from its quality. Evangelion is episodic for its first 18 episodes but there's a lot of character development and introspection in between them, same with bebop. These 2 shows focus more on characters rather than a narrative and for what they're trying to do it works. Also, it hasnt aged a bit, that aesthetic is timeless

  • Anime as a medium is overall terrible. It’s inherently childish and badly written. The direction is rarely spectacular or interesting but you get some cool music sometimes. But there’s a few masterpieces and excellent works worth watching, most of them done by brillant auteurs.

    I’d recommend:
-The works of Hideaki Anno : “Neon Genesis Evangelion” and “End of Evangelion” are the greatest animes of all time. “His and her circumstances” is probably the best animated romcom ever. His works focus on interpersonal relationships, introspection and struggles with mental issues. His style is unmatched.

-The works of Satoshi Kon: “Perfect Blue” is a masterpiece. “Paprika” is a wonderful meta cinematic work of art. He Nolan and Aronofsky. “Paranoia Agent” is also an excellent social critique of Japan (but lots of elements apply to our Western societies as well).

-The works of Mamoru Oshii : “Ghost in the Shell” is a brillant philosophical film as well as a great cyberpunk flick. “Angel’s egg” is a dreamlike esoteric trip.

-The works of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata: Do I really need to introduce them? These old fellows are legends.

-The works of Shin’ichiro Watanabe: What can you expect from this guy? A lot of good music, lots of cool characters, a lot of humor, a lot of action and lot of existential questions. Start with “Cowboy Bebop”, than watch “Samurai Champloo”.

Films/shows you’d like as well : Akira, Memories, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hunter X Hunter (1999 and 2011 are both good), FLCL, Gurren Lagann (a masterpiece), The Wings of Honneamise, Legend of the Galactic Heroes (sounds goofy but it’s not), GTO, Wolf’s Rain, Monster...

Read One Piece, don’t watch it. The adaptation has great music but gets worse as the story progresses so stick to the manga.
