Would love to be one of those people who go to parks to read or read on the train. Looks so peaceful
yep i had to unlock my brain from the grip of mindless internet usage
still working on it.. but getting better at it
funny how people used to view reading books the same as the internet today.. iirc ben franklin or some old white dead dude was scolded by his parents for wasting his time reading. now it is viewed as a healthy, scholarly activity
yeah, was one during high school then I went full tv series/movie only to discover again my love for books during the pandemy
I’m still working on it but I’ve made a lot of progress by really looking for books that I enjoy and not forcing myself to read stuff I don’t like or find boring. Makes it a lot easier. Then over time as you get more used to reading consistently it gets easy to read dense stuff
How did y’all start to develop the habit of daily reading?
Do you read in the mornings before work/school or in the evenings? For how long?
last year of college, picked up the autobiography of Malcolm X. hadn't read a book since high school. hadn't read a book of my own volition since maybe middle school. Never was a heavy reader but I did enjoy it as a kid. But when I read Malcolm X... man I just knew I had to keep reading more stuff. average around 8 books a year these past 3 years post college. looking to up it.

I read 10 pages/one chapter of the book I'm currently on before/after I'm done with my university stuff

I think you should just find something you're really interested in. For me, just starting a book was always the hardest part but I think just getting through those first couple chapters will go a long way. just sitting down somewhere, phone in the other room. timer on for 30 minutes... I think that you'd be surprised how easy it is to immerse yourself in a good book. but like I said, it's gotta be something you are really enjoying. don't force yourself to read something that is not interesting to you. read for enjoyment first then start maybe getting books that will challenge you.
but yea i'd recommend starting with something easy to read and quickly gripping.

If you were successful, how did you do it
Internet abuse is kicking my ass rn. Feels like my brain is in decline. I want to slow down and make everything quieter
