I think the idea that your relationship with rap can change such that you become disinterested/detached from rap is okay

But to react to that fact by saying that ur gna give up on rap because it doesn’t feed you the same way it did a decade ago is ridiculous

Change is inherent to the human experience. Don’t fault rap for being human

That being said, rap is life

    Ur just old now

  • The new gen of rap won’t be remembered in 5 years but to give up on the genre completely is laughable

Interesting to me that my interest in the genre as a whole definitely took a nose dive when Ye started beginning to suck (Pablo era, even tho he had a couple good tracks then and since).

Feel like he sky rocketed the genre to new heights 2000-2013 and then everyone was left trying to find someone else to lead the innovative/creative push, but there was no one to fill Ye’s shoes

    Enter Drake and Chance lol

    Both fumbled for different reasons

Glover/Gambino did right but since 2016 the game isn’t set up for him to really be a prominent rap figure with him not really going hard on the “I’m a shooter or my friends are” s*** lol

I feel like 2024 officially marks the year that I’m just no longer interested in this s***. Rappers refuse to grow and s*** is getting weird ignorant and worst of all, boring. And I’m not just talking commercial/trap/drill s*** either. I’m talking about the entire genre. Dusty rappers doing their best 90s rap impression and coke rappers on alchemist type beats just as uninspired imo. Rage trap was fun for a sec but that’s proven itself to be a gimmick pretty much. Obscure rappers usually obscure for a reason and previous gen A-List rappers like the big 3 and such are aging out and can’t continue to carry this s*** and honestly unless they do something different I’m good on them too lol.

Like I’ve pretty much checked out at this point and I no longer engage with the music or culture for entertainment. Honestly kinda reminds me of how I felt when I quit smoking weed, it’s like a new sense of mental clarity lol it’s wild.

Not tryna rain on anyone else’s parade or be negative, at the end of the day it’s entertainment so if it’s entertaining you then that’s great but yeah hip-hop just doesn’t do it for me anymore sadly and unless there is a major shift this might be permanent. Hip-hop been my favorite genre all my life so me disengaging from it kinda simultaneously disengaged me from music as a whole so I’m gaming a lot more these days, watching YouTube, movies etc. Even on here I’m mostly in gaming section now if anything because there is nothing going on rap wise that I even care to talk about lol. Like the current gen dropped the ball to the point that I’m good fr

    Anyone else reach this point?

I think the thing is tho is that rappers don’t just turn into dust when they turn 30

It’s enough people born in the 90’s let alone 1980 and beyond that rap and could make relatable music for their age but the game just rewards trend chasing and we all accept it as the way it is.

Enter what Andre said. Enter people calling Joe and whoever else a hater for asking for Drake to make “real” music for a man in his late 30’s because “da charts”

At the same time we revere Future and Wayne for being timeless and always relevant because they do the same thing. Carti and Veeze who both will soon be 30+ will probably flourish with a similar trajectory. And while the big day sucked ultimately we killed off chance for making intimate music about his real life. Why would niggas try to go deeper than easy listening trendy background music?

    It gets deep lol

I understand why you feel this way but i’m still finding good s*** ever so often

  • Feb 4, 2024

I think rap at its best nowadays is just music that is fun to listen to on release and maybe for a week or two past that but its not interesting enough to actually be music worth playing past that

  • Feb 4, 2024

    Outside of my favourites

Yeah I’m not checking for the genre as much as I once was

Just for reference, how old are you OP?

Idk about that but I really need this new Q project to be good

I don’t agree with OP’s post but this Q album + rollout is already giving me a vibe that I feel has been missing for years

If your love for the genre depends on your perception of whatever modern figures are out there then you need to rethink if youre really here for the genre or you just wanna trend hop for whatevers 'thriving' and rap is just a stepping stone/sound of a period of time for you

I’ve been trying to hold on brother

I do see the beauty in this s*** too don’t get me wrong. It’s like being an adult watching a school play. There is a certain level of innocent creativity going on that you can appreciate and admire but ultimately it’s still childish and incapable of stimulating you intellectually

    Q my last hope

    I see what you mean

  • Feb 4, 2024

It always be niggas like @op (who was one of the biggest fatd supporters) that be heavy into exclusive mainstream music that talk this “giving up on hip hop” talk like can yall niggas go somewhere lol

Kendrick was 23 when he dropped S80

Mac was 22 when he dropped Faces. Me and my bro were talking about it the other day - we not really finding new rappers that can drop a consistently great project. Just an album with 4 or so songs we really f*** with and feel meh about the rest

The most recent album by an unknown artist that managed to blow me away was probably Don't Go Tellin Your Momma by Topaz Jones
