How is it? I’ve never boxed in my life besides impromptu fights with my friends.
Is it hard to get into as a beginner? Can I still go pro at 22?

    No but heroin is cool.

  • It’s not really hard to get into tbh. Them workouts might kill you (not literally) if you not used to being active tho.

You not gonna go pro at 22 but can still have a lot of fun at a local gym

Go to a good local gym and see if you like it

  • You gotta be a prodigy or have insane power to go pro if you start at 22 with no experience.
It's real easy to get into since you just pay the gym membership but the workouts can be hard depending on how fit you are and the gym. You can always just go on your own time and do your own thing too.
I don't go to a straight boxing gym, I go to a dutch style kickboxing one and the training philosophies are different so I'd say don't spar until you feel really comfortable defending but idk, maybe they do light sparring especially if you're new
It's absolutely worth trying, there's no real downside to it unless you spar too early and get cracked

Been doing it since I was 7, did a few amateur tournaments and competitions here and there, just recently got back into it in November. Just join a local gym man, there’s always time to learn and progress, it’s an amazing sport for cardio and obviously great to have for self defense purposes too. I’m tryna get into muay thai by the summer since a gym just opened up down from my crib

I used to box when I was younger. It was cool but I just wanted to play video games lol

You can’t talk about going pro at a boxing gym without even being an amateur with them first, they’ll kick you out. It’s the number 1 sign that you don’t take the sport seriously.

You’ll have to train somewhere around 6 months (if you’re good) to qualify for your amateur license at the state level (you have to test match for it).

I was an amateur boxer (headgear) back in HS. First, I had to pass their 6 month intro camp (it gives you an intermediate level understanding of amateur boxing), and THEN you can register to be an amateur boxer in your state & be on your gym’s team.

Biggest tip? Find out if you can get punched in your face without tearing up. And I’m dead f***ing serious.

I’ve seen my friends (who quit), be scared the moment the gong ringed, all because they couldn’t wrap their head around “holy s***, the other guy wants to punch me too”.

don't know about any of the professional sides of it but boxing in general is very very very fun and a great stress-killer of sorts.

Muay Thai gyms are sick, idk about how straight boxing gyms train but Muay Thai gyms is so much light sparring and way more playful. The hard sparring nights can be brutal but even then if you tell your partner to chill a little you can get medium rounds and it be fun.
Just don't be cracking people too early lol. I always see boxing guys come into my gym and start hitting hard in the light spars.

You won’t go pro if you’re just starting out at 22.

Either way you should do it. Any type of martial art really. Imo it’s the best workout you can get other than straight up running or swimming

  • Mar 1, 2021

Also don’t go to any of those bs boxercise gyms for like 200 a month lol

Only boxes I'm interested in are the ones women have.

i've done muay thai in the past, my only advice is to make sure you train at a gym with a good reputation. one with a good culture around, everyone is friends with each other, not one where dudes trying to ko each other in sparring

  • Mar 1, 2021

used to spar like 5 times a week. never officially tried boxing though, always wanted to

Lmaooo I’ve been to like, 3 boxing gyms as an amateur - & you’ll always find guys like that. Coaches don’t call them out because they’re serious contenders.

But, I guess, f*** newbies lol (in their opinion).

I used to box when I was younger. It was cool but I just wanted to play video games lol

This + my mom didn’t want me to get injured (ironically she let me play football instead)

Strengthen your back, legs & shoulders & arms if you want to box. Just fyi for what you should be focusing on.

  • Mar 1, 2021

I was f***ing around with the going pro comment btw lol. I just want to improve my fighting skills and get some good ass cardio in

  • theres no money in boxing if you're looking into it vocationally
it's essentially chess with ur fists and the workouts are killer. just dont spar too much cause that brain damage aint fun
