I'm almost starting to feel like the music industry loves thriving off of dead rappers.
Something really irks me about all these post hummus releases for Juice, Pop Smoke, etc
I mean I'm cool with people in their lives getting some money for these releases, but it just seems like a super predatory move by music labels to make tons of money off dead artists.
Anyone else feel this way?
At the same time, I loved Pop Smoke and I just want to hear more of his music, man.
I can only pray that they’re making sure his family is straight. that’s all that matters,
And to make sure their voices and wishes are heard. If not, f*** them all
like it makes sense to keep releasing stuff from mac miller he has entire projects in the vault
only if they weren’t 98% already finished
How do you know they were 98% finished?
Labels could be picking and choosing whatever songs they want, and these songs may have never been intended for the albums that were released.
Besides that, the posthumous albums continue even after the first one.
I don’t think it’s weird though. The albums never turn out great unless the artist was working on it
Fun fact, Sittin on the Dock of the Bay by Otis was actually a posthumous release
yeah but also depends on the nature of the release
If they’d already been finished by the time an artist passed away, then no, I’m not.
Otherwise, though, yes, I am.
yea I was honestly just thinking the same s***
it’s so f***ing bleak the way the music industry capitalizes off death
Apparently what drive artist sales the most in rap is prison time or untimely and tragic deaths
im only bothered if the dead crawl out of their grave. besides that, if the music is good then the music is good
Circles was good, King Vons will probably be good
Not talking about music quality, just think the bigger issue is music labels taking advantage of dead rappers.

highkey creepy af
tbh unless the project was nearing completion and the artist already had a vision for what the release would look like, we don’t need to hear it
To me, it depends on 2 very critical things
A. They actually have completed songs in the vault that are GOOD, not unreleased for a reason
B. Their family and friends either approve or have direct involvement.
When it’s something made or finished with love like Circles by Mac Miller, it can be a really touching tribute in its own way.
But man, when it’s like X’s situation when they practically dug that man up from his grave and put strings on him, it’s truly disgusting. There’s a Duality to it.
You act like this is the first time it's happened. Sam Cooke had music after he died. Marvin Gaye. Tupac. It's the norm
