You act like this is the first time it's happened. Sam Cooke had music after he died. Marvin Gaye. Tupac. It's the norm
That’s true; also, for instance, J. Coltrane, Prince, Left Eye, D. Bowie...
That DMX album should have never been released
Labels such pieces of s***s wanting to cash in so quickly after X's death
there were some truly disgraceful Jimi Hendrix posthumous releases
combining unfinished tracks/sketches to pass them off as full songs, adding new overdubs onto unfinished material, releasing the roughest of demos that were never intended for anyone's ears but Jimi's, etc.
but there are also some worthy releases of material that he completed before he died as well as live recordings
If the material was finished and green lit by the artist, sure
But if labels are putting unreleased verses on Maroon 5 albums and s*** then you know somethings wrong
I'm almost starting to feel like the music industry loves thriving off of dead rappers.
Something really irks me about all these post hummus releases for Juice, Pop Smoke, etc
I mean I'm cool with people in their lives getting some money for these releases, but it just seems like a super predatory move by music labels to make tons of money off dead artists.
Anyone else feel this way?
nah we got alot of Pac gems from posthumous albums and there is still more to come. And his mom ran the estate. I just hate s***ty remixes and features that had nothing to do with the original record.
I don't really like them. I listened to pop smokes album like twice and i listened to him a ton since literally the week meet the woo 1 dropped it just doesn't feel right i still feel uneasy when they play more than like 2 pop songs in the club

Wasn’t there album already finished way before he died
in general i dont like them, i often think madlib has the right idea by refusing to release the stuff he made with those who are now gone
however i do also think it wouldve been an awful shame if those pop smoke and juice wrld albums didnt get released.

when an artist signs their deal it's usually for several albums. if an artist died unexpectedly in their prime they're still contractually obligated to fulfill their deal. so the posthumous albums kinda make up for the years that they would've been running the money up. you may see it as predatory but what else should record executives do? in the case of Juice WRLD, this is an artist who by all accounts would've had a pretty long career, should the label not want to make any profit they can? he's already not able to make new music, so why not feed the fans?
