I'm someone who's never had help from my parents with my college related costs. And fortunately I was able to get some scholarship money and I had a few of my brothers in school too, so even though my parents make a decent income I got financial aid. Plus I've worked all throughout school

But after I finish up this coming semester, I'll be sitting at roughly $80k worth of student debt on a f***ing absurd 10% interest rate (no co-signer and all private loans). And paying that back is just going to be brutal and take years and years of living as frugally as possible and wasting my youth

I don’t think you’ll have to live as frugally as you might think. The goal of these debts is to keep you f***ed for as long as possible so it’s likely you’ll have lower monthly payments than you’re dreading rn. Ykno, just to keep you under their thumb for longer.

I have roughly $15k saved up and you don't know how often I think about just yolo-ing it all on some stock options just for the slim chance it saves me from a decade of living paycheck to paycheck feeling like s***

Don't straight up YOLO with options, but learn about them and try to grow it over a longer period

WYTB in getting ur debt cleared man ❤️

Thanks man :/ I'm gonna be busting my ass and trying to get some side hustles going and continue putting some money in the market. I just want to be debt free so I can finally be done with it and have complete control over my own finances

I go to a very prestigious school too (top 20 ranked) and it was a horrible decision. I should've just taken a free ride somewhere closer and not have had to deal with any debt at all

Tuition keeps rising because universities receive half as much government funding as they did a decade ago. Millions of people are in the same boat as you OP

I know man. It's a big reason why people in our generation aren't starting families young, aren't buying houses, aren't able to travel as much as they'd like, and are overall seeing sky high rates of depression

It just really f***ing sucks, no other way to put it. Getting a good education (which is literally required nowadays for basic entry level jobs) shouldn't utterly cripple you for your entire youth

I was more depressed before college about it, and angry when I got f***ed with out of state tuition/the university kept denying me for in-state.

All I know is I'm not gonna be paying my debt for the next 40yrs. Getting it paid off as soon as possible; sacrifices will be made and for the most part my family is on board which is a blessing.

That's awesome man. What's your plan? Live at home to save money so you can tackle the principal as soon as possible?

College was the greatest mistake of my life, but I know I can't let it weigh me down. My goal is to focus entirely on paying it off and moving on with my life.
