I'm more angry about the insane amount of debt so many people are in because of it, and how out governing bodies largely have no inclination to do anything about it, and then i'm a bit baffled by the older people who don't want anything to be done about it because "they worked hard and paid off their crippling debt"
I have roughly $15k saved up and you don't know how often I think about just yolo-ing it all on some stock options just for the slim chance it saves me from a decade of living paycheck to paycheck feeling like s***
That’s almost a quarter of your debt right there. If you’re making a decent wage saving 10k-15k a year shouldn’t be impossible. You can have this done in like 5 years
I’m so depressed from just being unable to find a livable wage job with this degree that put me in so much debt that I’m genuinely worried for myself if/when I ever find that job how my mind state is gonna be.
By the way op your fine as long as your job is paying you a decent livable wage. My buddies that have like 80k-100k in debt pay around 700 on a 15 year plan or 1k for a 10 year plan (all private loans)
Damn im at like 15k and im panicking, couldn’t imagine 80k thats wild
Itll all work out in the end op, best of luck

Voted for him twice my guy. Bernie is the only legitimate idol I've ever had in the world of politics. Not only because of his student debt plan but for virtually every single policy and social view he's fought for and held for decades even before it was popular

Real

Yeah I know man. 5-7 years is a realistic timeline. The thing is I'm planning on moving to Denver or Chicago when I graduate so my cost of living is going to skyrocket and I'm going to have to live off the bare minimum in order to make the payments I need to towards my debt

It's f***ing awful man. This economy just f***s over most people. Nowadays a degree doesn't guarantee you anything as most median (or below) income entry level jobs seem to require not just a degree but years of experience as well. And then they somehow expect you to instantly start paying off that debt which is accruing massive interest month by month

Yeah that does suck, but tbh when I graduated I was looking into fin tech jobs over there and was surprised at the rent being fairly reasonable. That and you don’t necessarily need a car either
(In Chicago I mean)

I also wish we could’ve gone into the future with a president Bernie and I wholeheartedly wish for you to be successful and have peace of mind with this debt behind you. The establishment did not want the working class to win and our country will be f***ed as a result. I sympathize with your struggle and frustration.
I have faith that there is gonna be some sort of forgiveness in the future
If everyone in the country has this one debt that they cant pay off, somethin gotta give eventually
Damn I thought mines was bad but no I made the choice to go. I wish I would’ve stayed in state instead of leaving

Yeah unfortunately I don't see it happening any time soon to the point where it would be worth paying the bare minimum each month. It sure as hell isn't happening during Biden's term (or Trump obviously if he wins) and even if the next president after that is supportive of that kind of major legislation is going to take years to put into place

Me too man. I really loved the experience and thought it was great for me in terms of meeting a variety of people from different backgrounds and getting to live in a city way different than my bubble of a suburb. I'd be a different person if I stayed around home. But financially it looks like it was the wrong move
I'm someone who's never had help from my parents with my college related costs. And fortunately I was able to get some scholarship money and I had a few of my brothers in school too, so even though my parents make a decent income I got financial aid. Plus I've worked all throughout school
But after I finish up this coming semester, I'll be sitting at roughly $80k worth of student debt on a f***ing absurd 10% interest rate (no co-signer and all private loans). And paying that back is just going to be brutal and take years and years of living as frugally as possible and wasting my youth
I'm in the same boat as you and it definitely makes me depressed from time to time.
