used to, prefer producing tbh..
in my opinion its easier than ever to dj, the latest cdjs do everything, music is dished out through algorithms so the digging process is no effort. Though I still have admiration for the guys with a deep passion for the sounds eg. I saw Fred. P a couple months back and he is godlike
If you srs, a nice lil cheat code to do is play a sample/popular thing that uses sample before you play the big hit that uses the sample

Been doing it with that new Jamie xx song a bunch but it’s so good w super recognizable samples when you see that moment of recognition
honestly anything in the 115-125 bpm range is the perfect sweet spot to mix s***. It's a good range for most house, reggaeton, dancehall (well not the slow kind of course), afrobeat, baile funk type s***, and just upbeat joints. I make a lot of personal remixes that go in this range for that reason tbh.

Yea it’s dumb easy to get the basics down but that easy to learn hard to master makes it really fun to pick up
Producing is just really f***ing hard from the jump
The DJs who can scatch are mindblowing to me though I have a ton of respect for them

euphoria for sure
Yeah I dj sometimes for brand events
That’s tight
Do you get told what to play?
the funnest s*** you can do if you like mixing soul songs into joints you'd never expect to hear them in, is to find popular hip hop songs that are atonal/have no music (e.g. Grindin, Boss Ass B****, A Milli) and mix some jazzy s*** into it.
nothin like djing at a neosoul type of function and seeing niggas react when you mix s*** like Time's A Wastin with Beez In The Trap
i dont dj but saw you put a peggy gou track in the op - these 2 remixes are fire af:
I'm surprised there isn't a stickied thread for mixes tbh
Part of it is, shoutout to Soundcloud slowly becoming opps for djs, where tf is there you post em?
Mixcloud? Sure, but you cant scroll backwards on there
How does one get into DJing? I’ve always produced but being a DJ looks fun
my best advice: curate a playlist of your favorite dance/electronic songs
get rekordbox or serato
spend a lot of time exploring and experimenting.
the best part about DJ’ing for me is it’s the closest you’re gonna get to hearing your favorite songs for the first time again. your mix becomes something new, it should add something to the song.
here’s a lil cheat code too: “lost” by frank goes extremely hard a few bpm up. stole that from another DJ lol
