    Is it actually feasible that Apple will catch up to AMD in the high end space (threadripper) ? It seems unlikely any time soon... they will have to avoid making new pro models of Macs until they can compete

    I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to, maybe I’ll be proven wrong but there iPad chips have super high IPC and they’ll be on 5nm. Once those chips are put under a fan it should be as fast as anything Intel/AMD in terms of single core.

    I don’t think Apple would have said they are going fully ARM by 2022 if they didn’t have a faster high core ARM chip working in some form and I think they'll be better than Intel's Xeons maybe not Threadripper at first but if it beats the Xeon at 1/20th the cost its still an upgrade.

    Also I think Apple will use many specialized chips to handle more demanding work loads in the iMac Pro & Mac Pro.
