For real though think about it, you don't want to completely overhaul the iPhone every few years. It's the iPhone. It needs to get slightly better each year, and stay fundamentally the same to not scare people off with too much change or new form factors with diminished reliability or longevity. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. This is a device that needs to appeal to hundreds of millions (billions?) of people.

Almost nobody is going to upgrade every single year, so the changes just have to be substantial enough that normal people (who upgrade every 2-3+ years) are getting enough additive changes for it to feel like a worthwhile upgrade. It's clearly a formula and strategy that works

That's actually fking insane. Cheap enough to make it worth it as a second watch tbh

Exactly. There’s different types of innovations and what Apple and most smartphone companies are doing is incremental innovation. least risk, small improvements every year

It's the same as what a lot of Japanese automakers do, too. Why would you make a RAV4 completely different when they sell hundreds of thousands of units every year already? Year over year, gradual, slow, steady refinements and improvements

That being said, I'll be super interested in a more substantial overhaul if/when it comes in a foldable iPhone. That would be pretty sweet if the reliability was there and there wasn't a discernible crease. An iPad mini and iPhone in one device sounds sick
