Intel CPUs haven't been great and are prone to overheating. If this actually happens then maybe this year's refresh of the new 16 macbook pro will be a bigger upgrade than expected compared to well, the first 16 inch macbook pro.

Since it's not out yet I've personally been on the fence on whether or not I'll just buy the 2019 or 2020. If this is true and improves the performance and thermals, I'm probably getting the 2020.

My 2015 pro can be so noisy. With time I got to know my laptop and now I manage it just fine so it's overheating too often but it's still annoying to keep myself from doing too much. I'm a big power user too so I just end up closing things all the time if I want so peace and quiet.

    3358 battery cycles right now

But it was my first macbook so I didn't know what I needed until I got to use it a bit. Now I'm ready to pick the right specs for my 16 inch.

I’d rather have a noisey laptop than a quiet one that acts like a contraception when it’s on my lap

Oh yeah lmfao. I used to bring it to bed so often but I don't anymore so it's not burning my thighs anymore

I mostly just use it on desks and tables depending where I'm carrying it.

Mine is constantly on my lap so probably no little jeans running around anytime soon (thankfully but maybe not in this way tho ) plus the fact that it’s on a fabric really worsens it and I’ll deadass just have to hold up my laptop with one hand

I wish they would just switch to their own CPUs but I guess they don't have them ready for desktop/laptop use yet.

will be nice when we can get apple laptops with 8 core ryzen 9 cpus that run at 15 watts instead of 45 watts

their own cpus are arm based
it will be a while before the pro lines of computers are switched from x86-64 to arm-64
every piece of software will need to be rewritten or it will run poorly, because of this they'll start with lower end machines that don't run complex software that has be rewritten.. I'm sure they have working version of their apps but all the other developers will take a while to catch on
they'll do the air first tbh

Microsoft is pushing arm also which is good news, more people will make apps for arm if Microsoft can get OEMs to start using them

Nah Apple Arm cpu is next.

Apple is making they own chip end of 2020 or 21 bet on it.

Only thing Apple don’t control yet is they laptop and desktop cpu and its game over

apple wouldn't do that to their pro line anytime soon imo

I think Air ,iMac and Mac mini are definitely going this direction soon.

Mac Pro and MacBook Pro will stay the same for power users maybe 5 more yrs.

Yeah your gonna see it on the Air and the lower end iMac's and Mac Mini's first but that probably won't be until like 2022-2023 since they still have to port over all of MacOS to ARM and then with 3rd party devs porting their software to ARM it's gonna take some time.

Honestly probably won't see their ARM chips in their more powerful lines until near 2030 imo. ARM's catching up fast but it's still far away from x86 in some aspects (namely the clockspeed)

idk about soon for the iMac, a lot of people use iMacs in industries that need x86 apps that aren't compiled for ARM yet

I doubt apple wouldn't give those devs at least 2-3 years to cross-compile and test them

I think they'll do the Air first then wait a year then do the Mac Mini then finally do the iMac if the app support is there and yeah very last will be the Pro line once the iMacs and everything have been ARM based for a while

I think ARM based for the Air and AMD for everything is a good way to go soon though

They need to get off 14nm on their laptops ASAP

even the 24 core threadripper has a 280 watt tdp that would be one thick ass macbook

not saying it's impossible, hell I'm sure someone will make a laptop with a threadripper at some point but I don't see apple going that way
