I honestly think they work, I just coincidentally heard 3 albums that were around the same length or shorter. I think it's a good format enough to tell a story with a variety of tracks. What y'all think? These were the albums I listened to btw, all past members of Jermaine Dupri's The Rap Game TV show.

Feel like it works better for Pop than rap
For modern rappers, I’d prefer more tracks over 30 minutes of runtime, most new guys can’t really make a worthwhile 3 minute song.
Depends on the vibe of the project
That can be perfect but it can definitely also be too short
you gotta have great songwriting to pull it off
a real human streamed a ji the prince of ny album back to front in 2026 and thought it was good enough to post about on ktt2

I'm rewatching The Rap Game and I was surprised by his popularity and numbers upon researching the contestants post-show. The album was a good first listen though

For these 3 they mostly had their songs to pop their s*** but also have a couple sincere songs, I thought it was a good format compared to the 60 minute albums
gimmick
SRS, El Mal Querer, Pink Moon, Roman Candle, Dirty Mind etc.
You can get a lot down in 30 minutes
I prefer 40 minutes
As always it depends on the artist
Majority of Earl's releases are under 30 minutes tbf
I think Doris & Utility might be his only ones above 30mins

thats crazy Pink Moon doesn't even feel 30 min
35 to 40 is perfect IMO
I don’t think it’s a good or bad format in general. You just have less songs. If it’s good it’s good. If it’s not, it’s not.
A lot of times what one person calls filler is another persons favorite song. People like different things. Less songs means less chances to connect with people on those. But it also means easier to listen to in one sitting which will help people appreciate the album that way and just like there’s less opportunity for hits with listeners there’s less opportunities for misses too so it can result in people liking it better if there’s no skips for them.
Sorry but as a newer artist if you can’t put out a comprehensive project that spans a real LP length I have to question your longevity
it doesnt matter
I don’t think it’s good or bad but I think you can’t afford to “waste” anything as far as songwriting or how you build up each songs. Which shows in the albums that are praised are by artists with an established pen and accolades not every run of the mill artist can make a good one imo
is Illmatic a good album
That’s 9 songs plus an intro
yk it!! make sure u peep the album when it drops
I f***ing gotchu
