Thread was inspired by the twitter debate over the woman who moved to bali. She been receiving backlash for her moving and being called out by Indonesian residents for gentrification.
I thought it was interesting consider the woman was pretty much broke without a job in American and was severely oppressed as a gay black woman and decided to change her life by moving away. Rather than some rich american
From this, I seen people say Americans are abusing their privilege by moving to these countries even if their down bad in america. While also seeing the counter argument that immigrants from other countries do the same thing when moving to America.
What's ya thoughts
Not really, what's bad are the wealthy trust fund kids who go to "find themselves" and beg in the streets "backpacking" then go back home after a few months.
People can move wherever they like (if they can afford it). What I do find a bit annoying is that while people from first world countries can just pack up and go for the sake of it, first world countries make it extremely difficult for qualified people from 3rd World countries to move there and improve their own lifestyles.
just @ me next time OP. I did this myself and have a much higher quality of life in a third world country. I recognize I'm taking advantage of my privilege but it comes with sacrifices too. as long as you're respectful of the culture you're assimilating to, there's nothing to be ashamed of
twitter gon twitter tho
im not educated enough on this subject to comment so I’m going to avoid leaving my 2 cents on this

they need to get beat with shoes fr
Yes
The issue with the girl in the thread was that she was tax dodging. It’s clearly an issue when the locals do not see any benefit.

nah not morally wrong just lazy.
especially when you remember that lots of them are instantly gonna be among the wealthiest in the country and don't decide to try to support that country and try to build positively. I understand that everyone isn't a charity worker though and I don't expect everyone to "give back".
No, All young Americans should do this, let's make the next Elon Musk an American who moved to Nigeria

get what you're saying about giving back but there's nothing lazy about uprooting your life and moving to a new country. it's a constant challenge that a lazy person could not deal with

Argentina. It's a beautiful country and the dollar conversion benefits me a lot but the economy, crime, and parts of the culture can be a challenge. I plan on moving back to the states in a few years to start a family
you're allowed to live wherever you want as long as you don't take advantage of the place by begging for cash and try to negociate prices when you have the money to pay
1 person wont gentrify a whole place
Probably not, but you're kind of a loser if you move to a third world country for something like that imo.
As long as they pay taxes, respect the culture somewhat and don't spread their american brain-rot, it's fine.

Yeah, had to briefly look up what all the fuss is about. She was basically an illegal immigrant
Pretty much sums it up.
She can kiss my ass with that last part tho

I mean if you're already a citizen in the United States, you're in a country with many open doors & opportunities that are not present to people in a place like Indonesia. the op is about people that are just going bc they are not well off in the U.S but will be rich in another country.

Out
There are no debates on Twitter. It is just blacks and whites flinging s***e at each other.

Yup, you should move on the basis that you pay taxes like everyone else and not on a free ride.

The thing is she accusing the people who came as if they are leeching off the locals when really these are tourists with money to spend at a place thats literally designated as a tourism hotspot
