They CAME UP with a figure that’s firstly prone to error and second of all their profit will be the same regardless of how they report on streams and sales. Why do they need to come up with a new sales figure that doesn’t actually reflect the amount of units sold?
If nobody is buying albums anymore and everyone is streaming shouldn’t there not be a SPS chart cos that just makes the artist sound like they’re doing more numbers than they are

Just stick with reporting Streaming numbers then.

"Since streaming was first factored into the rankings four years ago, the ratio has been a strict 1,500 to 1 — it took 1,500 streams to reach the “equivalent” of a single album sale, a number derived from the average revenues that record companies get from clicks on streaming services."

They didn't just come up with a random number lmao

Because you’re failing to understand everything I try and tell you so I’m trying different ways for you to get it

Obviously it’s not working so imma head out

Nah that’s u stubborn ass. Hey everybody does this make sense

Lets take OLD TOWN ROAd. Say Nas puts its on his debut. Say no other songs from the album are played even 1% of OTR. Hypothetically. Due to the success of that one song, based on the current metric his album would still have “sold” like 100k or whatever. When NOBODY is listening to the rest - streaming or pure sales wise!!!

    Someone clarify this

I don’t think streams should be reported in service of sales because sales aren’t the standard anymore

But rn they have to account for artists who still sell a lot, hence streaming and sales equivalents

Also stans who live vicariously thru the artist

Or maybe it’s also to make it appear as tho music sales aren’t dying

Honestly how in tf does making up a formula (1500 plays = 1 album purchase) that converts streams to album sales even make sense?

Case in point. Ktt poster on front page remembers VIEWS selling a million. Oh it did but it actually sold 850 because you see the million figure comes from a formula based on sales and streams.... man, what? Do u see how silly that sounds? So he didn’t sell a million! The only reason this formula exists is because of EGO

1500 streams generates the same amount of money as an album sale would, that's how idiot.

  • Sep 26, 2020
    drdre

What does profit have to do with this? Why did u mention profit?

The profit will be the same regardless of the SPS. SPS is just a formula it’s just a measurement

It is all about profit. It's a measurement of how much money an artist makes with an album. In 2020 the majority streams instead of buying so the only way to properly reflect the same thing as what used to be CD/vinyl sales today is to equal the income of streams. You just can't make accurate charts without doing this it's purely a market a***ysis tool for the industry you're very confused to bring ego into this

Don't quote me I won't contribute any more to this braindead thread

Omg I didn’t say it was based on nothing I just said it was made by humans who are prone to error. Nice reading comprehension. Go check my latest post for the most clear agumentb

If you wanted to listen to one song, you had to buy a whole album, that inflated album sales.

Then you could buy singles, that reduced the number of albums being bought.

Then Piracy. And now there's streaming. It's just called moving with the times.

If 1500 streams of one song, makes 10.99 then it should count and it does. If you don't like it build a time machine.

It’s not about profit for the millionth time. They’ll make that money if they formula existed or didn’t. Why do I have to keep saying this?

what even is the argument at this point?

You asked us a QUESTION. If you wanted to be all aggressive for no reason, make a statement in the title and op next time don't be a p**** when called out or criticized for your extreme stupidity and misunderstanding of how the world works.

Bro at the end of the day any number placed on the value of something is arbitrary by your logic. If 1500 streams being worth $10.99 is arbitrary then so is an album being worth $10.99. So are these air forces being $99

They just calculate the equivalent as best as possible lol

Literally if people BUY the single outright that also counts towards album sales

Because it is consumption of the album

    It’s not arbitrary lol
That’s the number of streams that on average equals $10 - aka an album price

Ok but they didn’t actually buy the album. Just cos the price is the same doesn’t mean we can go around saying x Artist sold 150k this week because they didn’t!

    u rlly thought u did something 😭😭
