HUGE TRADE DEAL
Not really no
They got rich thanks to the industrial revolution and there is no correlation with wealth now and colonies of the past.
Portugal had one of the biggest empires at the time and they invented the atlantic slave trade but now look where they are.
A few european countries are still rich thanks to neocolonialism though. If France lost its power over western africa it would become a third world country in an instant
Correct answer.
Europeans weren’t really involved in Africa on a massive colonial scale until the late 1870s..they were already rich by then,
100% truth tho that they are propping themselves up off African resources now though.
u really gon act like industrial revolution isnt directly connected with colonialism lol. where they were getting the raw material then lol.
Industrial revolution started before colonialism. It instruem that they have been leeching off of Africa and propping themselves up off the backs of us since the 1870s tho
I don't trust them at all
nah bro, chinese people are cool, there are bad people everywhere
nah bro, chinese people are cool, there are bad people everywhere
yea true I didn't mean it that way, I meant I don't trust the intentions of their government with developing countries esp in Africa
The industrial revolution was the force behind this New Imperialism, as it created not only the need for Europe to expand, but the power to successfully take and profitably maintain so many colonies overseas. The industrial revolution created the need for Europe to take over colonies around the world.
also gonna leave this here
yea true I didn't mean it that way, I meant I don't trust the intentions of their government with developing countries esp in Africa
ah yeah, they should stay where they are, in Africa we already have alot of problems to deal with
I don't trust them at all
do you trust Americans through
i don't personally what the trump administration has done with amount sanctions put on countries is disgusting and has let people with very sour taste their mouth. The fact that gold and the mainstreaming of bitcoin in major financial intuitions shows that people aren't f***ing with them
africa is gonna eventually get industrialised as the last place that capital can exploit cheap labour and china might be the country to do this

colonialism started in 15th century with geographic discoveries

Might be? Arent they already investing there
africa is gonna eventually get industrialised as the last place that capital can exploit cheap labour and china might be the country to do this
yea that's what I'm afraid of and the African leaders are being buddy-buddy with them as the chiefs of the late 1800s did with the Europeans which is kinda sad to think about
Oh it got unlocked
oh s*** thanks @S

There is a huge correlation with colonies of the past and current wealth though. Not if you go back centuries like you would have to do for the peak of Portuguese imperialism for example, but looking at the era of New Imperialism, most countries that had large and succesful empires relative to their own population are doing better than those who didn't.
Like you said the industrial revolution was a huge factor, but the reason that it is, is partly because it made New Imperialism possible in the first place.
Obviously blatant colonialism has ended a while ago, and there are more factors to wealth creation than the mere size of a countries empire, but one of the necessary components for how most european countries got their position on top of the world economy was because of the headstart that colonialism gave them.
