The way I see it the line simply meant that Nas and Hit Boy make pure authentic hip hop without gimmicks

And bear in mind the song itself was in Gang Starr fashion stylistically, had scratches from Preemo himself and Nas gave Guru a cool nod on his verse

I think Preemo still shows glimpses of inspiration here and there (that Shawn vs Flair beat was incredible) but Nas just fw Hit Boy more on a personal level, and he wanna make an album that sounds current, not a throwback.

Primo would bring it on a Nas album though, he’s not lost it, still one of my most wanted albums, currently he’s not popping like hitboy though and Nas does have great chemistry with him. But I’d take Nas x primo over another Nas x hitboy personally

I feel you but Nas' process is different, he doesn't just pick beats that sound dope and rap over them, he wants to feel the whole vibe in the studio on some real collaborative s***. Seems like he wants to work with somebody he feels comfortable with as a friend. And he probably just doesn't have that kind of chemistry with Pete Rock or DJ Premier.
