no but there's a conversation to be had about curated playlists in general

curated playlists took the fun out of finding music online. it's basically the same s*** as radio now and has made the music industry pretty joyless over the last 5 or so years

KTT users don’t since we’re more likely to curate our own playlists but alot of people irl do

    I been solved that fam

its not about me its about the lack of new mainstream stars outside yeat ice spice and nardo wick due to hip hop being more gatekeeped than ever by old heads.

  • Jul 10, 2023

also don't agree with op. the guys he mentions are clearly tied to record labels and corporations but they are way better for hip hop culture than akademiks and whatever tiktok loser is out there. ultimately comes down to the lesser evil in this industry.

hip hop is not being gatekept nearly as much as it was when this wave of music started in 2016. and even then it really wasn't that bad.

the real problem is that every emerging hip hop artist is an industry plant through and through. that usually starts in these curated playlists--which is why they're a problem. tiktok has only made it easier for labels to capitalize on the industry plant method. the biggest festivals, shows, and music outlets are all in bed with the labels. there are no more cultural figures who decide what pops on a mainstream level. the industry has been set up so that way the labels decide what the consumer listens to, and not the other way around. it's a backwards ass industry.

my only workaround as a consumer has been focusing on hip hop on more of a regional scale over the last few years.

isn't nardo like the most confirmed industry plant? and yeat came up primarily thru tiktok which leads me to believe he was a plant, but he's definitely the one who i'm least sure about.

ice spice prolly the biggest plant out of all of them. started seeing her in my youtube shorts all the time starting last june.
