It depends? Sometimes it gets policy in front of politicians who actually don't have a great understanding of what people want. A petition got the attention of Jared Polis (governor of colorado), which prompted him to reopen the Elijah Mcclain killing investigation.

In terms of actual change? No, not really. Its more so a way for people to feel they're doing something without actually doing anything.

I seen on twitter today that some petition got a closed murder case reopened. I haven’t really been keeping up with all of that but I seen that one was a success. So I’d say they COULD but it depends on the circumstances maybe.

But overall I agree with this
